Group 1 Success at Funs Filly Farm
Champagne corks were popping long into the night after Ceylon Sapphires Group 1 success in week 7.
"We were just trying to get her placed to make sure she got into the Championship races and when the going came up good we were severely worried - in slightly stronger language of course - but we needn't have worried as she made short work of the colts for a comfortable win. We had a whip round and took full advantage of the 6/1 on offer - a sad day for the bookies [cue manic laughter]. The rest of this season will be spent in preparation for the Oaks as despite an opening quote of 1/6 for the Guineas she doesn't like a mile and will step straight up to 10f next season, unless the WBF stable can be tempted to take us on with Flying Foxtrot in the Chevely Park. Contact will be made and a "substantial wager" offered on the outcome!".
Lots of excitement in the stable again this week after final decs for the Group 1 National Stakes threw up a small field where Shiny Silver can get some more experience and will surely now qualify for the championship races with a guaranteed G1 place although nothing short of a win is expected.
"He is a classy beast who should take this race in his stride although he has always looked like the sort to make a better three year old" says head-lad Mortlock "cliche ahead" McLintock. "We are also hoping to empty the bookies satchels when Queen of Diamonds makes her group debut in the Royal Lodge Stakes although we are hoping the weatherman is kind to us, shes not the best on firmer ground but you can only beat whats put in front of you, its 11 men against 11, the team that scores the most goals wins...."
Unfortunately our reporters microphone broke at this point as he accidentally threw it into a wall and repeatedly jumped on it, so we got to hear no more of this bravely intelligent mans ramblings, I mean opinions.

Following a fairly quiet (by Whispering Downs standards) Week 7, where only Babe Magnet fulfilled expectations, a decision was made to send our top filly into the Group 1 fray. We need to know if she has what it takes to take on the very best before committing her career to the classics trail. Rose Of Oldham has everything going for her and little to fear from most of her rivals in the Group 1 Fillies Mile event. Main danger may be the SAM stable runner, Party Girl who will be right at home on the expected fast ground. Her previous form is nothing to speak of but she is an improving sort that may spring a surprise if she is in the mood!
Earlier in the day, Shesagoer takes on the classy looking Lusitania and the well-bred She's Electric. The key to the race may lie in the ground. If the going comes up on the firm side, expect the jolly to be turned over! We'll be happy with a place.
Our other runner takes part in the Royal Lodge Group 2 event. This looks a competitive affair with plenty of hype surrounding the chances of the FFF stable's filly Queen of Diamonds. She'll have to be at her very best to beat Stayzallday and she does tend to have the occasional 'off day'. A bigger threat could be the BBF colt Big George who has done little wrong in winning his only 2 starts to date. This step up in class could find him out.
Good Luck to all participants this week.

Despite the lack of winners in week 7 the Alianzalima SOF stable picked up yet more useful prize money with three places in Group races.Mongo and Reverend Johnson were second in Group 1 races and the fairly useless Lili Von Schtupp earned her feed for next year by trailing in last of three in a group 3 race. In maiden races there were disappointing efforts from Gov Lepetomane and Buddy Bizarre.
Week 8 sees the return of Waco Kid who has every chance in a group 2 race, Hedley Lamarr will stroll down the course in the second race in her own time and Lili von schtupp will probably come last again but pick up place money. I'm Tired who has finished last in two races with opponents and scored a Group 3 race walkover has a go in a Group 1 race. The stable are so confident about this horse's chances they stuck the whole £100 on Shiny Silver in the same race. We will be happy with third place prize money here and anything else will be a bonus.

The BCD Rockdude stables had a busy time of it last week, with almost all of the stables' runners in action. It may look like there is little logic to the placement of some of the horses, but we have a master plan in operation, and a large pin to prove it!
We were very pleased to register our biggest win to date in a listed race, but ultimately the targets are next years classics as we have a good handful of horses capable of springing a few surprises in these next year. And a cow just jumped over the moon...... :wink
Week 8's races have a few runners with chances again. Only 3 runners in the Group 2 Mill Reef stakes means even at outside odds of 5/2 Lemmy a Fiver has a decent chance of landing the spoils in this one. On speed figures this horse is ahead of the other pair, but on temperament and consistency we are a little worried, and our jockey is relatively young and new to the game.
Race 2 sees Lady Eleanor out to win this fillies only listed 6f race. Best jockey in the race coupled with the best form on firm ground and a good attitude suggest we might be on to a winner here - obviously the ground is the main concern, but if it stays sunny we should be in with a shout!
Race 3 sees Pee Em Tee as the rank outsider, and understandably so for a listed race. This filly is very green, but should come on for the run and again in a small field may sneak bit of prize money though we don't expect her to win.
Race 10 sees 2 of our fillies in a cracking looking group 1 mile. A lot depends on the ground here - if it's good then Mrs Doubtfire stands a great chance of winning this one - we have the best jockey in the race and a very consistent horse. Screaming Banshee may come into the frame for a place, but less likely to get near the top spot.

I'm going to concentate on the feature race of the day, race 10, the Group 1 Fillies Mile.
Let's start with the short priced odds on Favourite Rose Of Oldham. She's stepping up in class here today, but has done very little wrong in her 3 starts to date, winning twice, and proving herself to be potentially top class. She should go well on the ground regardless of how it turns out, and after some frenetic trainoing over today's distance of a mile, she looks the one to beat on form.
We have joint 2nd favs both sitting steady at 5/2 in the market. Fuller Class has the best speed figure over the distance in the race, but is desperate for firm going, if the ground softens a little she will have her work cut out to overturn the jolly today. Party Girl get's her 3rd look at tthe racetrack today, will relish the ground, however her attitude does concern me slightly, will she put it all in today?
4th in the market at a juicy looking 4/1 is the MTP filly, Milly The Pocket. Good ground would see her in with a terrific chance today, although she's yet to hit the frme in either of her races so far, and today's Group 1 contest looks tough if the ground doesn't go her way. One thing in her favour is that her temperament won't be put off by the occasion, and she'll handle the G1 pre-parade very well indeed.
Screaming Banshee is one of 2 entries form the BCD yard. Winner of 1 of her two starts this season, she has every right to be in the field, however this looks a very competetive affair, and I think she will struggle in this contest today. The other entry from the BCD team is Mrs Doubtfire, she's another that is likely to struggle today, but the stable are looking forward to a good day out in Group 1 company.
Finally, the YLN entry is Downpour, her name says it all really....the sun is shining here at Win2Win Downs, and this girl really needs it bottomless underfoot. This, along with her distinct lack of consistency looks ominous, and she will find it hard to live with the field today.
All in all a great race to look forward to, with any of the top 4 market leaders looking ot have a decent chance today.....who will walk away with the spoils? Very difficult to call.

Actually Mark in my plans I meant to run Downpour in the free foal race but she has had a couple of decent runs so hoping for the best
