Whispering Downs stable ends the regular season with mixed emotions. The pride of our stable Rose of Oldham shows her true class in winning the Group 1 Guineas Trial and overcoming the seemingly invincible Big George in the process. It is unlikely these two will cross paths again in the near future, but both horses could well be on their way to the legendary Hall of Fame if they continue in the same vein of form throughout their career.

We now face the BIG decision - do we retire her after Season 2 or do we try to extend her career through to following seasons?

The rest of the day proved to be a major disappointment. Early Promise, despite her early season performances, looks to be little more than a Group 3 horse and she will step up in trip next season to her best distance.

Stayzallday could have blown his chance at the Championships with a very poor performance in the first race of the day. He'll take a drop in class and stretch out to the stayers races from now on.

Buddy Kerai's jockey came back in tears - he knows the horse has the makings of a decent stayer but he is more highly strung than a sprinter at times. Another mediochre performance today will see him back in the Maiden classes 'til he shows enough to win a race.

Race 9 of the day produced the shock result of the season when 16/1 'mudlark', Alan's Alibi, showed that real class doesn't care what ground the ground is. Getoffandpush ran a fair race to grab the last of the money, but Classic Dream ran a shocker, trailing the field on his debut.

Looking to the Championship races next week, our stable Star looks like she will go off a very short favourite for the Filly's Mile and early quotes from the bookies show she will be installed as warm favourite for next season's Classics.

Hope everyone enjoyed the first season as much as I did and hope that you will try to attend the Championships next week (whether you have an entrant or not) - I hear a local sponsor will be giving away a few fantasy credits and there may even be an auction!

Week 10 summary & Week 11 preview.

The Workshy stable is very pleased in Picksixtrix picking up another group 1 3rd place, the horse despite getting left wanting for speed came strong from last place in the final 2 furlongs to take 3rd place flashing home. The horse will now run its 4th week in a row, with hopes for a place in the championship race. After that it will be put away until the 1,000 guineas where the stable have early confidence. Workshy was quoted as saying “All this hype about Rose Of Oldham [TOW], our horse is bred for a mile upwards, roll on the big race, we can reverse the form. Much depends on the ground, totally different running styles”.

On the subject of our other runner, Bentasaninebobnote, Workshy was again frustrated that the colt didn’t replicate his ability on the racecourse, he will be worked on some more with the hope of season 2 success. A step up in trip may suit.

Looking forward to week 11, the stable looks to have 1 runner in each race.

Picksixtrix (see above) in the fillies mile, place hopes.

Shock Horror in the fillies sprint, maybe lucky to be in the race, no expectations, this will be a good 3yo though.

Zero Chance in the colts mile, the horse has a cracking temperament and seems to run to his ability, a genuine horse. Would have to run to full potential to place in this field.

Nos Boss in the colts sprint, trained on very impressively, expect a different horse from his group 1 disappointing 3rd earlier this season. Strong place hopes, “we’re looking to reverse form on Reverend Johnson [SOF]”.
