When are Horses finalised

I've just started betting and have been looking at some future races.

The odds look such that you could bet on every horse and be in profit which ever one comes in first.

This is obviously impossible and my only assumption can be that the full complement of horses is not yet finalised. How long before a race does this normally happen and where can a complete list of entrants be found?

I presume your talking about Ante-Post betting...:yikes:

Which means placing a bet days, weeks or months before the event.....It is highly unlikely that you will win backing every horse in the race......Bookies and layers have to make a profit......:yikes:......

However, you can get better odds placing the bets early.....BUT, AS YOU ARE NEW TO RACING....I WOULD STRONGLY ADVISE YOU TO LEAVE THESE MARKETS WELL ALONE......

Horses can be withdrawn from the race just before the actual race time......although generally speaking those in the betting the week of the race almost invariably will run on the day......

Merlin is right. The bookies profit is made up from any antepost bets where the horses don't run. Unlike a normal bet, a non-runner in an antepost bet is a losing bet.
That's why the odds are initially more attractive.

You could be guaranteed a winning profit by backing each horse but only if every single horse runs.
