This morning I deleted Norton, bought PANDA platinum, downloaded and installed it.. all fine. I now canot access my YAHOO MAIL.. everything else is fine. I rang the people who sorted my laptop and from whom I bought it.. they shook their heads and said,m that`s PANDA for you, that`s why we don`t use it, causes awful problems...
OK, I have conflicting advice here.. BUT, meanwhile, they said, try disabling PANDA temporarily.. if you can then access your yahoo mail then thta`s proof that it`s PANDA.. only problem is, how do I disable PANDA temporarily.. can`t find anything...
and if it is the problem then how do I fis it if PANDA won`t allow me to access my yahoo mail ever ?
I e-mailed PANDA support without reply so far.. not promising.
OI was recommended by several of you on here to use PANDA and you are obviusly happy.. so please advise.
btw everything else is fine, can access other sites etc etc. :hearty

there should be a 'panda' icon somewhere - possibly next to your clock. try right clicking then disable. or go into the actual panda appilcation and disable it from there. (you may get a warning) PC is at risk or something like that - ignore it.
if you go into the options there are probably different typs of security levels. high, medium and low. - the default is probably high, sou you could try fiddling about with thoes options.

Which instructions ? I downloaded and installed it like they said following the online wizard and before I did that, uninstalled Norton..The ONLY way I can access my yahoo mail is by disabling the whole panda and then enabling it again but that is a pain and also not ideal as anything could slip through .. do you think I should uninstall and start again ? Nothing in their FAQs helps.. I wish they`d bloody reply to my queries. I did pay them 50 quid after all. ;fire

Which Panda version AV, AV & Firewall, AV, FW & spam etc?

I don't use either panda or yahoo mail but this is how I'd go about trying to resolve the problem:
1. Are you trying to access a yahoo site for your mail or using an account in an email program such as Outlook Express? If it's the former, what's the URL of the site you are trying to get to - it might be that a) that server is down or b) your ISP is unable to trace that server in its DNS lookup table.
2. To determine if this is the case or not, open up a Command Prompt window and type "tracert" without the quotes followed by the URL you are trying to reach, e.g. tracert http://mail.yahoo.com/
This should show you the route by which a command from your browser to that site takes. If you get a message like unable to resolve target name, then it's a problem with your ISP. If the route takes an age to resolve or you get timeout messages, that usually suggests a problem at their end or enroute.
3. If you're trying to read your Yahoo mail through Outlook Express, make sure that you've set the account up properly. http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/pop/pop-06.html
4. As mentioned, try disabling Panda to see if it has any effect. I can't imagine that it would prevent you from accessing either the webmail page or dialling into your mail account though.

Keith.. it`s the PLATINUM VERSION. i went to the site and in the FAQs there is a question about this and they say it is to do with XP.. so I checked everyting they tell me to.. and done al the things they say.. but I can only access my yahoo mail after I disable the whole Panda.. which is hopeless. :hearty

GLOS... see above
I don`t use outlook express. I go to yahoo.co.uk then click on Mail. I have the upgraded yahoo service .. I pay 10 quid a year for extra space etc.. it has never ever let me down and is totally stable.. I asked other people this afternoon and they all have no probs with their yahoo mail. The moment I disable PANDA i can get into my mail, no probs.
I have no e-mailed panda four times without response...no phone help after 5.
If this goes on I`ll have to uninstall; and go back to Norton as I can`t cope with this all the time.
I have checked everything in tools/internet options etc etc etc.. all as it should be.. :hearty

You need to go into the firewall/AV settings, and allow cookies. Not sure exactly where it is as my system that uses it is shutdown. Should be a SETTINGS link/button in the software.

Panda automatically installs with high settings to protect people who don't have a clue :) You then need to adjust it down until your happy with it. Once it's set, it stays that way, and works quietly in the background.

Since reading this I've just noticed mines playing up. I have Platinum 7. When right clicking on the panda, you get the 3 configuration options. I'm ticking the firewall enabled box then clicking ok, only when looking again the box is unchecked :doh I wondered why my firewall hadn't been asking me to allow things for days, I had hardly noticed! I'm fairly sure this has happened since downloading that microsoft anti-spyware beta version, so thinking it could be the real time protection playing havoc I switched it off then tried again but still the same. What's even wierder, is when opening Panda fully as if to do a scan, it says firewall protection enabled, yet the box is unchecked :doh

Just reinstall Panda, their is something on the Panda site about a MS update piddling about with the settings, your supposed to check this info each month. All part of being a responsible computer user, don't expect everything to happen automatically.
I always research what MS wants to download, it's my computer, if I don't like it, it don't go on :)

Woah that was :censored: scarey! I uninstalled which then required a restart. Upon restarting, the usual windows security centre thing pops up sayin anti-virus is switched off etc so when I click to close that, my system goes "kerklunk!" and a dark blue screen with white writing comes up saying physical memory dump and lots of other stuff I haven't a clue about, advising that I start up in safe mode. I restarted in usual mode and the same happened, so now I think my pc is completely knackered! Not knowing anything about safe mode I tried to reinstall panda but there was an error installing the firewall, so I restarted in normal again and luckily it stayed alive this time, reinstalled panda and firewall works. Now a problem is that security centre is saying my anti-virus AND firewall is switched off! So I checked the box that says "I have an anti-virus program that I will monitor myself." None of this was a problem before, now microsoft security centre is not working alongside Panda. :doh

I only use the AV & Firewall on Panda, I don't use the MS firewall, or any of their stuff. I run their spyware software each week, but I don't leave it running in the background, I use Spyguard for watching my system live.
If your still having problems, Unistall Panda again, and the last program or two you installed. Then put Panda back on.

I don't use MS firewall either, but there's a red shield with a white cross in the middle that sits in the bottom right tray (security centre) which probably came along with servicepack2. This states whether your AV and firewall is on or off, it detects most types. Mine is saying off. Not a huge problem as it's all working, just one of those niggling things you like to have right. Everything was perfect (very unusal for my system) until getting that MS antispy

:23_111_9[ The nightmare continues!! Halfway through today, my outlook express decides it won't let anymore emails through! So I check tools connections and it's trying to connect through LAN :doh so the settings have been altered all by themselves by something, probably sometinhg to do with panda as it's been causing me no end of grief lately. So I've now reset the connections to my broadband and it's working  And not forgetting to mention an icon has disappeared off my desktop in the last few hours and I don't even know what it is :laugh What are these creatures like!! ;fire

Yes, full scan as soon as I reinstalled. Took an hour! Ooo My pc goes through phases where things go very strange, then they just sort themselves out and it restabilises after a few weeks/months. Like the freezing I asked about in this column, it doesn't do that anymore and I hardly did anything other than remvoe a few things that had been on it for years so couldnt be responsible.

I've always had same day replies when I've used their Tech Support service. Their should be a \Doc folder when you install the software. I install this on every system I do, and no one has any problems. They do with Norton & McAfee though, Norton is terrible for hogging the system resources.

I decided to reinstall again as my outlook express was getting stuck when panda was checking the mail. After installing it says a restart is required to enable firewall so I click no, I will restart later and kerklunk again. Screen says windows shut down to save from further damage and suggests something about disabling caching and shadowing in bios. It restarted fine and email worked first time but we'll see. I'm never downloading anything again that I don't desperately need.

When I got rid of Norton, I had to edit the registry to get rid of all the crap it's unistall had left behind, as well as programs & directories. Not very professional.......this in turn will cause problems when you install a different AV........maybe Norton do it on purpose :)
Best way of clearing out crap is by using the Window Install Clean Up program, before installing anything new.
I think Susan & PS will find that Panda is clashing with some crap left over from their last AV/Firewall.

I thought it would be something to do with registry but I've no idea about that side of things. Today it's gone back to the same, email scanner just gets stuck and says I'm receiving 1 of 17 emails, then I switch off panda and 2 emails come through. I will uninstall and then use that windows clean up and hope it does the trick. The only other things I've downloaded are desktop themes, I wonder if they could be the problem...?

After sending countless emails to support, I emailed the woman who emailed me my username initially months ago, on the off chance she was still at that addy and she just phoned me up :yikes: No replies off anyone else but her!! We discover that my version hasn't been updated and that I should have been emailed telling me of platainum 7 version update but I wasn't. Downloading the latest has sorted it (touch wood!)
