:cryer
If anyone can offer me some advice/help/drugs etc i'd be really grateful.
Yesterday my pc decided not to start, except in safe mode,. No internet no nothing. It happened after i downloaded bet ie (could be a coincidence not sure has anyone else had any problems with it?)
Anyway, screen froze, then it went blank, then i got the blue screen saying system error then that was it. I trie system restore but it would only restore me to a point after it had happened so it was useless. I ran scan disk said all ok,, i uninstalled bet ie but still it would only start in safe mode.
I've finally managed to get online and out of safe mode but only by changing the graphics hardware acceleration thingy to none where as it was previously at full. This has allowed me back online, but Gawd........it's all.....Black white and grey, and half the stuff i cn't see, the top bit of the screen is just black i have to guess where my favourites are, refresh, page back etc, can't see any of it, can just vaguely remember where it is. Sorry for any typos am typing lightening fast in case the pc buggers up again and chucks me off, wanted to get my message up here quickly.
Operating system is ME, 2200 athlon processor, 2 x 20gb hard drive, 250sommat megs of ram (I think)
Will grovel my thanks to you all knowing ones later when it's fixed and i know it won't kick me off
Thanks in advance if there's anything you can think of, I appreciate it, best wishes
Vickyxxxxx

Not really sure where to start Vicky, I'd say it's nothing to do with Bet IE though - got that yesterday myself, and no problems with it. Hopefully Glos may be along later to help you out of this one.

Glad betie's working ok for you BigC, i must say i haven't heard of anyone else who's had this kind of trouble with it. I like what i've seen of it and was looking forward to giving it a go. Have e mailed them tonight but don't expect to hear back till sometime tomorrow, i'm not blaming them or anything, it more than likely was just coincidence. I keep saying it's time to get a new pc but then i just seem to carry on with this one. Worst of it is, a few weeks ago it went wrong (some other reason) and my dad told me off for not having a system disc back up thingy. I promised to make one, but when i got it fixed i never gave it another thought cause i'm such an :butthead:
Thanks for the reply, let me know how you get on with betie:)

From the sounds of it, your best bet would be to reinstall the drivers for your graphics card. Start by installing the one that came with the PC and then visit the site and download the latest version for your card.
Also make sure that you've got the latest version of DirectX installed - you can download it from Microsoft.com, just search for DirectX

Cheers for the reply Glos. I've got the latest direct x, had to get it a couple of weeks ago. Any way to know which drivers came with the pc, i got it second hand about 4 years ago.

Download the latest graphics driver.....do you know the model?
BETIE doesn't have any known problems.

If you know the manufacturers name, you can do a search for it or go here and see if Windows has an update http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
And you might've had DirectX a couple of weeks ago...but that's no guarantee that the installation hasn't been corrupted.

Cheers, i've been rummaging around and found i have a NVIDIA GEFORCE" mx/mx400 thingy, is that what i need new drivers for possibly? Also do you think i should try and install direct x again on the offchance? I had trouble with it the first time i tried to install it but the second time everything seemed ok.

Have you tried to go back to the last working version?
I think ME has that option in it!

I'vwe been sat here all day, losing my temper, faffing around, being grumpy with everyone. Mr FN and the kids have all fallen out with me, was beginning to feel guilty,............but now the pc's fixed :spinning
A big thank you, one more thing, do you think now would be a good time to make one of those start up discs my dad keeps on about or should i wait and see if it keeps behaving?

Apparently windows ME won't let me do a start up disc without me putting in the original install disc, which i don't flaming well have cause it was pre loaded!! On the up side I have managed to set the sysem restore so if anything happens again, hopefully i can just get the pc back to that point in time which is better than nothing
cheers people :hearty
