Hi Glos,

I think you mentioned previously that you used to work in PR etc......

Where is the best šplaceš to send a press release for the UK and Ireland....?

I have googled it - but there are lots of options - And I of course want to give it my best shot :yikes:

It depends on the release and your target audience. There is no central "place" as such, although there are the more well-known news agencies like Reuters and AP. But if it's what I think your release is about, I doubt they'd be interested although they might have contacts with other organisations that are better targetted.

If I were you, I'd look for the contact details of trade magazines, e.g. holiday and backpacking business, and fax your release directly to the "News Desk". Start your release with a good punchy title, an opening paragraph, a couple more paragraphs to provide more detail and, if you can, a quote from someone saying how wonderful this news is. Even better if the quote comes from someone of importance or associated with the trade.

If you are trying to arrange a photocall, put that in bold at the end of the release and include details of when and where it's going to take place, and a quick line to describe the subject of the photocall, e.g. Brazilian model to exhibit new invisible swimwear range.

Finally, don't forget to include your contact details, address, phone and fax.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Glos....

Dont know what you think its about....but its regarding this - which is not the intended statement by the way......:yikes:

The Directors at volunteerbrazil.com are delighted to announce that volunteerbrazil have launched a Scholarship Program, which will essentially be used to subsidise volunteer programs for those volunteers who cannot afford the placement fees.

A statement will be made shortly, but when I asked Alan Thomas, the Chief Executive of volunteerbrazil.com about the Scholarship Program. He said this:

We will shortly be announcing our Scholarship Program in more detail. However, volunteering is an agent of change, and we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to participate on an overseas volunteer/internship program without the prejudice of financial constraint, social exclusion or personal hardship.

It is to this end that we are going to subsidise a maximum of 50 volunteer placements/internships in Brazil before the end of 2006. Application for Scholarship is open to everyone - without exception. Although the aforementioned criteria will be given priority. All Scholarship Applications must be supported by a letter of recommendation, if successful, 50% (half) of the volunteer placement/internship cost will be met by the volunteerbrazil Foundation.

Thanks Merl

That's what I was thinking it was about :D

If it's a scholarship you can try any of the national broadsheets - most of them have an education/careers section that they would include it in. Do a UK search on education journals and you will probably find quite a few.
