do format cells and make sure they are set to number.

you may have to retype the figures!!

=Sum(A1:A45)

If the characters in the cells are recognised as text then the answer will be zero.

Copy and paste special may convert there is another way but I will have to consult the help - something about pasting special and multiplying by 1

If you find they are text, type 1 in a blank cell, copy, and paste special (values and multiply) onto the range of 'texted' numbers. You now have numbers :)

It'a download from Betfair, just playing with some spreadsheets. Doesn't normally happen when I copy and paste into other spreadsheets.

I've jusy had a look at my Betfair bet history download.

They numbers are formatted at text on mine. I did the copy and paste special thing and it worked.

Yep use the 1 in a blank space and then copy then highlight the numbers and paste special click on the multiply (second box down) and apply

Sorted chaps. Thank you. I'd already formatted the cells as numbers but it still wouldn't do it. Do I have to do that paste special every time I download from betfair?
