The QUEEN was visiting Cardiff one day, while walking up the steps to the City hall, her heel snapped on one of her shoes, desperate measures has she never had a replacement pair……
Her usher picked up the shoe and ran like the clappers to a cobbler in near by, Queen street!!
The only cobbler in the vicinity being a Jewish family owned shop……
He explained to Mr Goldberg (the cobbler) that it was her majesty’s shoe and that he could then advertise that he had helped the Queen and it would no doubt increase his business, so the cobbler fixed the heel in a matter of minutes, the usher thanked him and he wavered the cost too, the usher then returned to the Queen and she was obviously very grateful and delighted on the quickness of the repair and continued on her tour of this fine city …..……..
Mr Goldberg (the cobbler) never got on very well with his immediate neighbours in the main shopping street, as none of them were Jewish they were all of the Christian faith and on various occasions he had rowed with them…………
But now!! so as to increase his business he put a sign above his shop,
!!!Mr Goldberg O.H.M.S.... COBBLERS TO THE QUEEN!!!
So he went home that night with a huge grin on his face, thinking that this will increase his business ten fold! and people would flock to his shop on seeing this sign….
He returned to work the following morning and the Christian tailor Mr Hodges (he was a royalist) next door to him had put a big sign above HIS shop front, saying...... !!! AND BALLS TO THE CHIEF RABBI TOO!!!………..
