Hi All can anyone help out a friend of mine, he asked someone to build him a website as he had no idea how to do it.

Now this person registered the Domain in his name (not my friend's) and did indeed produce a 6 page website, the problem is it had many grammatical / spelling errors on it and after repeated requests from my friend to correct them he has failed to do so.

Questions
(1) How would my friend get control over the Domain name that is not registered in his name, but was commissioned by him ??.

(2) Can someone (Keith :D ) do a "Get me back control of my website or else thingy" to scare the little webmaster :butthead:head out of his wits :wink

His friend has to transfer ownership via Nominet.org , their is no other way of doing it.

He also needs to be told the FTP details. IE, password & username, and access to the Control Panel for the site.

Bit silly having it registered in someone else's name though, it's a legal minefield.

Can't he do another domain, and upload the site onto that? Then ask the 'friend' to point the old one to the new one? He can then use .htaccess to force search engines to recognise the new one, and the old one is worthless in a few months.

If he had a domain like 'domainname.com' he could register 'domain-name.com' which is actually better for search engine rankings.

If you type racing sim on the UK page,
your section on the forum (not the actual site) comes up on page 2! :clp

If you tyope in footy sim in entire web section
The footy sim forum section is the number 1 entry :D

As for the actual sites... I have no idea! :D

Enginge rankings is not an easy thing to do, and does take up a good few hours a week of my time. This site currently has 80 1st places, and 608 in the top 30 of all the major search engines, with around 7000 links to it.

One site adjustment can take a few weeks to have an effect, although Google can do it in 48hrs if your lucky.

I thought that with Nominet , but as me mate commissioned him to do it for him he naturally thought this would be the case, that it would be in his name etc.

I think the :icon_tong that done it for him ripped him off, well I bloody know he did, I think he's charged him for hosting and just tagged it into some of his own instead of setting up a proper one for the business, that's why he has no FTP details I suspect.

Now how do we word a nice little letter to get him to release the Domain :wiggle:

I used to work for a company (overture) that decided who and what appeared in search results. It's a big part of my new job now actually.

Now how do we word a nice little letter to get him to release the Domain You can't really, you have no legal entitlement to the domain or host.

Put it this way, it has well in excess of 250,000 page hits a month, including the forum.
