Lack of blood supply, it's your bodies way of crying out for oxygen before serious damage is done to the cells. Just put studded wrist bands on, you won't sleep on the damn things.

If it is only in the morning after you have been lying on yor hands/arms then Keith is right.. if you get it at random at other times, see your doctor as it can be a serious symptom.:hearty
