Just thought I would start this thread up as requested to take the chat away from Keiths thread about the systems..:)

Chris, I haven't thanked you yet for Wayne Corden

What a player..
Made a real differnce in the closing weeks of the season.
Esecially yesterday when he had a great game, setting up the first goal
and causing the Oxfoird defence all sorts of problems!

I hope that we sign him permanently!

SO a big Thanks to Scunthorpe for letting us have him! :hearty :D

And sorry for polluting your thread with off topic stuff! :laugh

After I started both LAY Systems they hit a sticky patch and I had both systems showing a loss, I reduced the stakes and Layed below £2 on betfair. Was just wondering if other people would have done the same or left it at the £2 minimum. The system rules only say that if your are unlucky enough to start with winners you are stuck with the £2 minimum, but as we know you can get round it..:)

Depends on how much your initial starting bank means to you. Having said that any bank you start you should write off as money and be prepared to lose it, if not you are staking too high so I would tend to use the starting stake as the min stake.

That was certainly off-topic quickly..:anger :wink ...he seems to be one of those players who everybody rates but made a move (to us) that just hasn't worked out, so I would guess that he will be on his way in the summer, especially if we go for another left sided player and Beagrie stays for another year.

I hope Beagrie carries on, he's a terrible bore on Sky Soccer Saturday! :D

Nice little win today on the Flat win system at 3/1 following yesterdays winner. That bank now in profit along with the NH lays and NH Backs. Just the flat layem system in the red for me.

Thanks TH, didn't really think about it until I saw the comment about it in the staking rules earlier today, I had previously just reduced the stakes to the 1% with a little bit of rounding. I started both Lay Systems with a £200 bank, the NH System has now recovered to show a small profit, but the Flat System has gone from a 10% increase in the first few days to show a small loss so far, but the minimum stake is in the £1.90's again so I suppose it is easier to round up to £2.00 thus guaranteeing your Betfair Points as well.

Do you leave orders iron chris or are you able to put them on before the off,i left orders yesterday before work and got 7 matched but ended up with 3 winning the races so wasnt a great day for my bank lol.my cut off is 10.0 :wiggle:

Iron Chris
7th May 2006, 21:19
Hi wiseman, I tend to place a lot of my bets during dinner at work which has resulted in both over and under laying so far, though I tend to leave the evening ones until later in the afternoon. I am quite fortunate in that I can have betfair on in the background at work without a great deal of hassle (I even get asked what I am betting on now sometimes..:D ) so can keep a track of things. I don't tend to leave them until 10-15 mins before the off purely in case I get into something at work or we have a client on the office when I would be needing to place the bets.

I am using a similar cut-off as well wiseman so I am a bit confused about yesterday as I layed 7 as well (4 Flat & 3 NH) and only had one flat winner..:doh .. so I don't know what we did different there, I had 2 Flat & 1 NH selections that were over the limit.

I actually left an order last night for the only one that was under the cut-off for today which was taken this morning and was a nice under lay, but that was just luck I guess..:)

Good luck for the coming week.

Would have been even nicer Pez if my Flat Back System bank was in Betfair instead of Betdaq. I managed to get partially matched at 3.50 on Betdaq which would have been swallowed up on Betfair.

The next time I looked it was trading at 2.86 and so I took that, making average odds of 2.98.

Still beat SP of 2.2. :)

A good day today from the Lays that remained. Two N/R's on the NH System but the remaining lay lost so a small increase in the bank again. Three of the eight Flat Lays ended up over my cut-off but the other five all lost taking the bank back to break even again, so things are back on track hopefully..:)

For tomorrow I make it as follows :

Flat Lay System = 7 (Two are on the price cut-off marks though and not sure if they are included or if it is strictly 'between' the prices & not including them?)

NH Lay System = 2

Jonny2621
8th May 2006, 22:11
I have taken it as on or between the price forecast Chris

Good day today, bank now up 15.12%

laying to 1% fixed stake revised daily

36 lays - 3 winners so far

getting a bit quicker reading the cards too

I asked keith about this and he said include the prices, what about if the ground changes overnight then lads are the lays void what you think:wiggle:

Iron Chris
8th May 2006, 22:44
I would guess that if it changes outside of the rules then the lays would have to be void as I have ignored cards where the forecast ground is outside the rules. Must admit though I haven't been checking for going changes but with the weather changing this week it might be worth looking at.

I layed them too johnny.

Look on the bright side it is a new bank and so it will be at a lower level as regard stakes. Better to hit that now than later on. It will set you back a couple of weeks, you have this system to run as long as you want now.

Jonny2621

tophatter
9th May 2006, 16:48
I did what Johnny did and backed them back after the 1st two when I realised the going had changed to soft. Sometimes you cant help but leave them if you have put them on and gone out before the going has changed, but if possible I would void them as a change in going is a bit of a problem especially if it is one of the variables in the system

Iron Chris
9th May 2006, 21:41
Well, what a day that was..:yikes: .. not one I would want to repeat at regular intervals..:(

What can I/we learn from it though...:doh ... I personally don't think that the change in the going had any great outcome on todays results, though it did give us a possible get out clause with the system, as I had managed to under lay all the winners at dinner and if I had seen the going change earlier or if it had been flagged up I could have got out of every one no problem and I don't think any of them were backed in before the off indicating a great liking for the ground. I think it was more just one of those days that we can hopefully put behind us and move on from...:)

I will be checking the going tomorrow for sure but am still not convinced about today.

For the record, I make tomorrows - for all those who haven't slashed their wrists..:wink

Flat Lay System = 6

NH Lay System = 1

Any other thoughts on the day appreciated.

mathare
9th May 2006, 21:48
Any other thoughts on the day appreciated.Maybe not one you wanted to hear, but there were no Lay'ems using Sporting Life as it gave the going as soft, different to the RP's going.

Now on a different day this could well be reversed and it could be me in the mire. But checking the Slife going and going to half stakes if it disagrees could be a potentially good idea. I dunno. But the key point is consistency. If you choose a way forward, stick with it until you can prove that it really isn't working.

tophatter
9th May 2006, 21:54
ground change is a funny thing Chris. Yeah, I agree that it might have had absolutley no bearing on the horse winning or not but it may have ruled out one or two others making a better challenge. If you get a chance when you see the going has changed back them back because the ground is one of the variables and is best to get as close to that as possible to replicate previous years stats. The second one was the most painful as it was the highest priced lay but you will get days when those longer ones win no matter what the ground. In the l,ong run I doubt it would make that much difference if you cant back them back so dont worry too much if you cant.

Iron Chris
9th May 2006, 21:56
Pleased you missed them then Mat..:D .. and you even put a hint up earlier I see about the going on SL..:(

Checking the going on both sites but sticking to one for the selections does seem like a good idea and if there is any doubt make sure of the going on the day before placing any bets..:)

tophatter
9th May 2006, 22:00
That sounds a good plan to me Chris. Every day you will learn something new in the early days and experience different emotions. it will be sharp emotions initially which should lessen as you get into the routine.

Iron Chris
9th May 2006, 22:02
Yes TH, I agree that one or two challengers were maybe put back by the change in going. I certainly wasn't expecting 4 in a row to go in though. I could maybe have got out of 1 possibly two but decided to let them be (one was about to go off anyway). Got one back in the evening and the NH Lay lost as well so started on the road back..:)

Sorry to see you had a mare Jonah, it was a bad laying day all round yesterday.

I had 7 lays up, one was a NR, one way over the odds.

The first two won, which was when i found out about the change in going, i wasn't best pleased so decided to void the other two Chep lays, the latter for a v small loss.

I did the Catt one in the evening and it lost after drifting to 14s or so.

Bank overall is now up 3.13% after being 19.79% up. A bloody shame but not a disaster. At least I can see that the filters of the system are there for a reason ! I will try and lay these later in the day and check the going if I can. Having said that if i hadn't layed King Harson early it wouldn't have got taken so its swings and roundabouts and a little bit of luck all round i guess.

Stick with it Jonah, i had a good run on these before this, 3 winners from 36 lays so a decent run will get you back on track. Just keep looking at Keiths spread sheet about two years down the line and look at the bank total. Thats what I am doing !

cheers

If you mean the 5:15 jammey..:doh .. it can be a bit off putting when betfair have it as 1M 2F but the racecards on RP & SL both have it as 1M 1F+yds which is strictly speaking below 1M 2F. tophatter
13th May 2006, 21:40
no you dont want too many of them but its entirley possible it will happen again as the horses are single figure SP's and four of them winning in a row is not as unlikely as you may think. It is all the thing about Strikerate again. On a high 80's percentage strike rate you can have more than 6 horses going your way in a row and maybe 20 or 30 or even 40 in a row! However you can also have more than one in 7 horses going against you in a short burst. It would be easier if basically you placed 7 bets and in every batch of 7 you took the hit once but the maths of strike rate dictates you can have big abnormal runs either to your advantage or disadvantage.

Marcus and Matt know the maths better than me, but take a coin. The probablility of it landing as heads is 50%. That is a 50% strike rate. Toss it say 10,000 times and you will be close to that strike rate. But split that 10,000 sample into batches of 100 and you will have 60% 40% maybe even higher or lower percentages than that.

Hi tophatter how many banks/systems do you actually run,i am just going into my eight to 9th this week.they are not all seperate accounts but split on paper and i am the most disorganised person you will ever meet. You know the type it takes me 3 goes to get out of the house coz i always forget something.Any helpful tips wouldnt go a miss on how to juggle these lol:wiggle:

sparkyminer
14th May 2006, 18:21
One hint for anyone who does them all at once. Do the bets by system, so that when you download the results to speadsheet they are in system order and you can then paste in blocks. Saves sorting them out.:)

tophatter
14th May 2006, 18:25
I have 16 banks at the minute Wiseman. All you need do is keep a record of how much you increase or decrease daily for every bank seperatley. You dont need 8 different betting accounts if you have 8 banks you just need to increase or decrease your stake on each bank individually depending on how its going and to to do that it is imperative to know how much each system is standing at come the end of the day.

It can seem a chore at times but it soon becomes second nature. If you dont do this and just lump them all in, it only takes one system to have a bad run (and at some stage they will all have bad runs) to drag the others down and you end up staking smaller on the others systems than you should do and that will cost you profit.

Top day again on the NHPM eh lads?

Was well pleased today TH. When I picked them out last night was a bit worried by a couple of the selections & had to get them matched quickly at dinner as well. Came home later and found they had all lost, so was very happy...:wiggle:

NH Lays are now showing more profit than the Flat Lays are losing so things are steadily improving again..:)

wiseman33
14th May 2006, 23:35
Hi tophatter can i ask what staking plan you use for the flat lays and NH profit.ie percentage of bank and is it fixed stake or liability and did you start these with a small bank as per normal hope you dont mind all the questions thanks wisey:wiggle:

tophatter
15th May 2006, 02:01
No worries Wiseman. I have started with a bigger bank than I normally do but a smaller risk liability than I usually use on those smaller banks. I am using £500 banks on the laying systems and £200 banks on the backing systems. Usually I only start laying systems with £200 and backing systems with £100.00. Im laying to a fixed stake with a 10 cut off at 0.3% a point (i.e. if bank was £1000 I would lay to £3 a point with a max risk of £27 if the horse won at my cut off) On the backs Im using 3% of my bank as my stake.

Hi SC, when I got both systmes I trialed them for a couple of weeks to make sure of selections etc and they both stood up to the figures well. Sods law then came in when I started them live and the NH System went into loss but has now recovered to be 13% up so far..:) The Flat System set off like a train and was well in profit, took a couple of hits but then derailed when we hit 4 winners out of 4 in one day when the going changed outisde the rules after many lays were placed..:( ..since then it has recovered to nearly even again so without that day when some backed the lays back again (i couldn't unfortunately) the system would be on profit as well..:)

As you say though, it is early days in a long term adventure, but the early signs are good and the systems are easy to use once you have had a few goes and you can normally check on here as well..:)

Hi Ada and Scaaty,

Sorry about the late reply but I haven't had much time on my hands since Wednesday.

I take all of my selections from the Racing Post website and double-check everything to make sure. Grand Opera was definitely forecast favourite at the time when I checked the site and it had forecast odds within range.

I am a bit disturbed to see that the paper can be different from the site as I was hoping to get my qualifiers from the paper on days when I did not have full internet access. :(

I hope this assists. :)

Jonah, I take it that you are doing these regardless of going conditions?

Chris, I am still a little naive to say the least when it comes to horse racing.

I looked at the going on the Racing Post site which indicated good-soft and I looked at the going on Sporting Life which indicated good-soft, soft in places.

I thought the Sporting Life had just provided some additional information and did not realise that the official going had actually changed, which I take it it had?
