When i got into work this morning I opened my Vaio Laptop and when i turned it on the screen looked like a broken windscreen, eminating from a central point there are what look like splinters going in all directions. There are loads of physco colours and just one corner of the windows screen is barely viewable. Something is amiss.

I can get the laptop repaired if as it seems, it is broken, thats not my problem. I can do without it for a few days BUT...

I spent three hours working on a presentation for a customer last night, he is due in here at 11 am so I need that info off the laptop urgento.

I have connected a PC screen to the monitor port. The black XP start screen shows OK then the picture on the monitor disappears and it reverts back to the laptop monitor and I cant see or do anything.

This is really serious guys, can anyone help me here, I havent got much time to get the spreadsheets off.......

HELP!! :(

Can't you burn it to disk?

Hi ,

I know this is not a quick remedy, but seriously laptops are not the most reliable machines. If your bread and butter depends on a computer my advise would be to use a PC. Lappies go wrong all the time...one sooner others later
If you need to use a lappie do to your movements...take a spare one wth you..back evbery thing up on the first one.

I back everything up continuosly to other comps, DVD, hard drives, pocket drives, pen drives......and the cost of a pen drive for 1GB is only £20 now.....nip out to Argos and buy one :)

Can't you burn it to disk?

If I can get the laptop to show on the attached PC monitor I have a 3G card and can email it to my main PC. But the laptop wont come up on the monitor, I dont know why ?

I cant burn it or anything as I cant view the laptop screen to access the file and move it anywhere...

One of the funtion keys should have a little picture of a screen on it - maybe in Blue, which means you need to use it with the function key maybe - this should toggle between laptop display, exeternal display or both.

Good Luck :)

If the black screen XP shows, you're in default mode, before you go to that, enter SAFE MODE and change the settings in there. Then reboot.

F5 maybe?

Had a look and think it's Fn-F7 but might depend on the model of Vaio.

Has he jumped??? :D

Very funny :D

Sorry guys, ran off to connect it to another screen, F5 did the trick, loaded in safe mode and screen appeared, about 1/4 the size of the PC screen but enough to get the files off, managed to burn them to a memory stick as the Vodafone 3G wouldnt work in safe mode.

Thanks for helping me out, you saved me a hell of a lot of embarassment and maybe a fair bit of money ( No, there isnt a reward :D )

Better go now and get ready to sell :wink

Thanks again guys
