fuming at the moment. my internet has been a pile of :censored: over the last week with numerous periods of downtime. but today was the last straw. - missed a bet that would have landed me a very decent sum ;fire ;fire ;fire ;fire
i don't want this to happen again, but don't know the best way to back up my internet. a dial up connection isn't really ideal as if the phone line goes down then it's no back up at all.
so is a mobile card worth it - like one for a laptop. and would i be able to connect one to a home PC?
i don't know the costs, but for maybe 10 minuites use on the rare occasions the internet goes down, i do not want to be paying out £30 a month for something that i will hopefully never use.
i am good friends with the next door but one - so will ask if i could allow my computer access to his wi-fi in case of downtime.

Mobile card only for laptops' unless you buy the interface card for the PC. I think minimum is £10 a month.
You can get another phone line + broadband for £25/month

Why not consider getting one of the new phones with full unlimited internet access
(except some do not allow online streaming like Willhill radio and not much good for BETie.)
I use mine if my wireless signal to my laptop at the bottom of my garden is not very strong, and also discretely at work......:peeky
These phones are very good if on contract but try PAYG and the costs are SKY HIGH.

will look into that in september when my current one runs out.
i got a really good deal with my current phone :)
200 txet messages and 200 mins (inc mobile) a month
for FREE - well i have to claim cash back every 3 months - they said most people forget about claiming the cash back and end up paying the £30 a month. - i even got payed £30 for entering a voucher code :)
only thing is i only ever sent about 3 messages and spend 5mins on the phone a month :spinning

I got a T-Mobile MDA Vario, same as the O2 mini XDA I believe.
I got mine with Co-Pilot Sat Nav as well.

I bought one off ebay but when I tried it on PAYG it could easily cost £20 per DAY. It was something like 2p per Byte, ( £20 per Mb )
which is scandalous and it is easy to use that in a few minutes if not careful.
So I then got the same model on contract thru T-Mobile with "web'n'walk" almost unlimited internet access and gave the first one to my son.
The only disadvantage I found is that it is not 3G but GPRS which is not as fast.

I basically want the following:
1. To be able to acess the W2W forum, which I could do on my P900
2. To be able to access Betfair or at the very least Betfair lite
3. Not interested in a camera, music player, texts etc
4. Decent speed, i have used GPRS on the Sony for some while and its OK but a bit more speed from 3g would be nice :wink
5. Flat fee data access so that I don't get any nasty shocks when the bills come in.
Not much to ask is it?
So far The Boss says an 02XDA, and Jane says the T-Mobile MDA Vario.....any other suggestions ?

I did a bit of digging around yersterday and there is Vario II on the way in July/August that will be 3G and EDGE capable as well. Looks just the right bit of kit for me. I'll try and wait for that one to come on to the market :)
