Actually, I think I have it.

As far as I can make out, it the same as an apprentice jockey race in NH racing, but I could be wrong..

Pinched this from Betfred help.....

Conditions race: The general description of any flat race which is not a handicap or a novice race, is not restricted to maidens and is not governed by selling or claiming provisions.
Conditions stakes: A flat race which has not been awarded pattern or listed status, is not a handicap or a novice race, is not restricted to maidens, is not governed by selling or claiming provisions and is not restricted to apprentice or amateur riders if less than £7,500 is added to stakes.

Lots of 'nots' in there !

Ah, I see. Thanks Scaaty. I was mixed up with a conditional jockey race.

Blimey. Who names these things?

Basically it is a race that has no other catergory, so they stick the word 'conditions' on it :)

I thought a stakes race was one that didn't fit any where else and a conditions race was one were the runners had to meet certain, er, conditions. No wins since 30th May, won prize money of less than £5,000. That sort of thing.

The paper RP normally gives the conditions for each race at the top of the card.

They find out what is leftover in the entries, stick them in a race together, and make up some conditions so they all qualify :)
