along with my workout i have been using some supplements over the years - some good some crap, so heres my oppinion of them. - feel free to add your own reviews.

CREATINE

dymatize - creatine
the first creatine i tried - had some ok gains, a bit gritty, dit the full loading phase and 3 times per day.
VERDICT - ok, but much better available

reflex - XXL matrix
the creatine i now use, also contains glutamine, this realy helps my recovery and i havs seen some pretty good strength increase whilst using it. comes in lemon and fruit flavours - both taste great and no gritty taste. VERDICT - look no further for creatine

WHEY

reflex - progen
this stuff is thicker than paris hilton, 40g protein per serving aswell as 30 vitamins / minerals and pro-biotics. tastes great (choc-mint) a lot like a macdonalds milkshake (but thicker). i used it as a full meal replacement after a workout as it really is filling. it's very expensive though and gave me terrible wind  also takes a bit of shaking to mix.
VERDICT - good, but expensive

reflex - instant whey
just got a tub of this, £32 for 91 servings (+ free shaker), pretty good value. each serving provides 19.5 gram's of protein, mixes easy and tastes just like nesquik in both taste and consistency, not thick at all, not too filling either.
VERDICT - great value and tastes great

MULTI VITAMIN

reflex - nexgen
i havn't realy noticed much difference using these, but i guess it's hard to notice any difference with a multi vit. contains all the vitamins you need. the suggested serving size is 4 per day (2 morning 2 night) but i don't really see the point of using them at night so use 2 in the morning on training days and 1 on non-training days. the 120 caps last longer this way and at £11 it's not bad value. warning you must take this AFTER eating, as every time i took them on an empty stomach i puked up horrible acidic orange stuff, and it made me feel like crap. it also makes your urine turn flurescent yellow / green which dosn't really mean anything (excess vit B12) but i thaught i would point it out incase anyone thaught they caught a nasty STD.
VERDICT - good cheap multi vit.

PRE WORKOUT

garnel nutrition - enrage
a sort of red bull with creatine. supposodly good for pre workouts. - i got it to wake me up in the morning for a early workout. only tried it 3 times, but it tastes discusting, a sickly sweet lemon flavour which is hard to drink (and i use half dose), the caffine / taurine kick is minimal also.
VERDICT - tastes nasty, innefective.

TESTOSTERONE BOOSTERS

USN - ZMA
not sure why they advertise this stuff as a test booster, i really like this stuff as it helps me sleep (also gives you nice dreams :) ) it also helps with recovery, though i always use it with creatine. 240 caps for £20 is well worth it for the better sleep. but i don't know how effective it would be to someone who has poor sleep.
VERDICT - really helps sleep, cheep

reflex - bulgarian tribulus
this also helps sleep / recovery, but the main thing is deffinately the 'incredible hulk' like effect - ok going overboard there, but it dosn't take long to kick in and once it does you get a sense of 'rage' and 'lust' the rage deffinetly helps in motivating you into hitting the weights, but you may get a short temper, and if you even take a look at a woman i could imagine things could get unbarable. i have noticed some strength gains with this. though i have also seen this product slated more times than good things said about it. i guess it works for some and not others.
VERDICT - fight or f##k side effects. but worked well for me.

bio test - alpha male
this stuff is meant to be the last words in testo products that outshines all others (according to revews) only tried it for 3 days but noticed nothing. it's also very expensive. i just wanted to try it as the trib worked well for me so wanted to see what this would do.
VERDICT - too soon to form conclusions, but inefective so far and pricey.

Is this true? I thought if you drank supplements like a camel, say, 4-5 times a day, they still affected you even if you weren't doing a workout that day. That's why I've been drinking my supplements all the time, not just when I go training.

Good reviews anyhow Presto, when I get more experienced in training I'll begin to use a larger range of supplements I imagine, but for now all I really need is Whey and/or Maltodextrin.

it was meant to mean something like:

a couch potato who takes supplements will not turn into arnold schwarzenegger.

..............................

i tend to take less supplements on non-training days as your body dosn't need quite as much extra IMO (though i am no expert). the muscles need the most protein straight after a workout - so that is when i only used to take a protein shake, but now i have some cheap good protein i may use everyday.
i only use creatine after a workout aswell, to aid recovery. the trib / ZMA i still use everyday (cycles) as this helps me sleep though.

it would most brobably be more effective to use everyday, but using half measures on non-training days does save a bit of cash.

no john, take your supplements every day.even if you have a week or two
of training.i do not do weights on wed,sat and sunday, but take protein
every 2 1/2 hours in food and supplements.the only other training i do is
on wed and sat, speed walking.sunday rest.the only supplement i drop is
maltodextrin on none weight training days,to keep my carbs down.
