ol this is nowhere near wbnough time to preper. bit my friend id habving a fight this sunday and said he will take me on the sunday after.
it will be 6 3min rounds - pro style
he has been boxing for 5 years at least.
though he is giving away a lot of weigjht - a sort of middle weight vs heavy weight fight.
he was sort of riting me off for the fight. but i said i wopuld rather get knocked out and knoe where my fitness / skill lrvel is than not fight at all. he also fights for the ABA club nearest me so it would be good to know someonr there already. - though i said io want to lose a good bit of weight and improve my fitness before i join.
imo i feel it would be an insult to the trainer to join in the state i am in. so tjats wjhu i want to lose weight.

Your friend will probably kick your ass for the full 6 rounds unless you can deliver a lucky knockout punch :) 1 or 2 rounds is hard enough never mind 6 :yikes: . Best thing to do though is get down to the club, if that doesnt get you fit Nothing will, doubt the trainer will bother about lack of fitness as long as he sees you put the effort in.

Make sure you wear a pair of cletos , your knockout chance will improve dramatically . My guess is he wil be far to quick for you and just land flurries of punches for the whole fight probably without being able to put you down . Your only chance really is to be as economical as possible . Boss the centre of the ring for a start let him do the dancing, cut down his angles by moving accross him when he gets near the corner ropes you must stop his mobility .
do you have the reach on him ?? If you do you can work off the jab as long as you can jab constantly which will be hard for 6 rounds . With your weight and assumed power advantage look for the body shots not the big ko you are far more likely to do him with a body blow . trainer won't mind mate attitude is what they care about not physic also get doing some sprints / shuttle runs thats the best thing when you aint got much time + a few miles fit==rst thing on a morning would put you in good shape good luck anyone who jumps in is brave in my eyes SC

One of my training mates was a good stone and half lighter than me but much fitter and faster, I could basically walk through his punches but he would win most times on points, I would blow myself out looking for the knockdown as I knew I couldnt win any other way Ooo , I was what you would call a slugger and didnt even try avoiding punches half the time, you might say I was crap :D .

what have i got myself into :laugh
nah - looking forward to it. i will see if he will change it to 6 X 2min rounds rather than 3 min rounds. though i did just manage to do 5 1/2 full blooded rounds on the heavy bag, - though the heavy bag tend's not to move very far and tends not to punch back.
we are about the same height, so i doupt i would have a reach advantage. regarding the gloves, the cletos look a little pricey. how would the 'green hill tigers' compare? they are competition approved and much cheaper. or would it be worth the extra for the cletos - i assume they are competition approved? 10oz is competition weight isn't it? will also have to get myself a pair of boots aswell, is there anything i should be wary of when getting boots, like order a size above or should i just go and order my size?
will stard doing shuttle runs aswell. how does running round a footy pitch doing say 10 burpees at every corner sound?
i had the same sort of plan for the fight to cut down the angles and corner him, before letting the big blows rain in. the hook to the body is a good punch for me aswell, and the headguards will make the body shots more effective aswell.

presto greenhill tigers are an amateur glove and dont favour a banger the best amateur gloves for banging are ERGOS i could send u a pair of cletos but would appreciate em back after your fight , these ar the £100 competition gloves as worn in vegas and have very little padding as far as your rounds go i would get it down to amateur rounds 3 x 2 min coz trust me you will be waisted after a round and desperate for a break . Trust me nothing is comparable to ringwar as an exhaustive pursuit .

Best boots for the money would be adidas tyguns but i wear eq 2000s which are awesome try getting a size above they are tight and adidas are the best boots going .
sugarrays to find what u want but order from elsewhere as they are too pricey circuit training is good but you will have to absolutely kill yourself . one christmas day after boxing day my old coach had me sprinting up and down the gym with 2 medicine balls till i literally couldnt stand you will have to train to the point of despair but ultimate pain exhaustively is sonmething you must liase with

thanks for the advice and thanks for the offer Ben, though you have already been generouse enough with the headguard. i also wouldn't want to be responsible either if anything went wrong - the postmen round here are less than honnest. ;fire
had a look at the tyguns on e-bay, there looks to be a very reputable seller who has a few at £30 (£40 inc next day delivery). so there on the list.

You are a brave man presto i will look forward to the feedback after the fight it sounds like street cry knows his stuff i would certainly take his advice,as you say the heavy bag is no substitute for getting a good dig of someone.I done kickboxing and was training for 6 months (runs/ bagwork/ etc) before i had a good real hard spar it certainly opened my eyes to how in shape you have to be,mind you i let my ego get the better of me i went straight out and tried to show him who was boss lol this resulted in me getting pasted for 3 rounds and i couldnt hold my gloves up at the end lol anyway mate my hats of to you good luck and kep that guard up:wiggle:

was thinking about your fight presto is he orthodox ? we have already established you are the heavier guy and am hoping the more powerful if u are putting your punches through properly .
You will be able to catch this kid out i reckon and to utilise your power best you have to be in the best position possible. You must cut down his mobility so i reckon you want to adopt the role of "pressure fighter" in this role you will be offensive throughout even when defending by all the time going looking for your man . i take it you know all your blocks and parrys to throw him off balance etc and if i was you i would look to counters for your success . Firstly you need him on the ropes but not at the expense of over exertion , most am fighters will try and jab off as you approach them when they are on the ropes i feel jabbing yourself wont favour you against him he will beat you to it most of the time . when he jabs and you will know when he's gonna do it as you will be looking at his neck , shoulder area throw your right at his hand pressing down on his glove and arm allow your momentum to take you in to him with the right follow with left to the body and look for the clinch where you can stick your head in his face and lean on him .
Geting inside will be your key , when you do throw short shots uppercuts and screw shots but stay compact and let him bring the fight to you . If he gets you in the corner or on the ropes the most important thing is move your head it doesnt matter if u dont know where the shots are coming from but you must move your head and whilst doing so step out with bodyshots .
Keep your elbows tucked well in a body shot will hurt alot more than head and will put you down if it happens hard. If you do get a nice flow with your jab and you are getting a few shots off then dont forget to hook off it no kids in the amateur do this well and it is a great combo.
You know yourself that you are better off getting in to a tear up as it will suit you more than him just get close and beat him up good luck SC

i never thaught about his stance, i just assumed he was authodox. i am off to see him fight on sunday so will find out then, will also be a good opportunity to asses his strengths / weeknesses etc...
i hope my blocks are ok, though i guess it's hard to tell having never had a punch thrown at me, but i always take care to keep my hands up when throwing punches.
been doing a bit of practice on the inside with the short sharp punches, by resting my head on the heavy bag and throwing them, keeping the chin tucked in. is it wise to slightly lower the hands when in this possition to below the chin to block uppercut's, as i am assuming my opponent won't be throwing any straight punches, also the lowering would help a bit more in blocking the hooks to the body, though i suppose this would be at a risk of being open to a short hook to the head.
i think i will need to do a good bit of footwork practice in the comming week, as of now i havn't really thaught about it, so a bit of shadow boxing, and uppercut practice to come.

comboes will be important if u can get em off practice this
jab jab duck inside duck outside right cross and finish with a left hook always try and finish on aleft for obvious reasons also
left right roll right dbl jab practice spinning of the heavy bag too .
blocking is hard at first so you need to get in to a gym QUICKLY has to be firm but economical you will block his left with your right and vice versa keep the right on your chin and wait for the jab dont go to meet it or try pawing it away . Think about not just stopping the punch but knocking it away as to unbalance him knock it up to expose him for a left screwshot to the body or a hook as far as the body is concerned block with your elbows by twisting your torso and keep moving head and body indpendantly of feet and golden rule if your feet arent moving your hands are .
Good luck Presto - as for boots, I favour DM's - but a good pair of hob-nails might help:D

if u haven't done much foot work make sure your stance is right you face 12 oclock your feet face 1 oclock so obviously you are getting closer to being side on do not at any time stand square . you hsve to stand square in most combat sports as tp be balanced for sweeps against you and other kicks but boxing wise get nicely sideways on and elbows well tucked in
