I guess you need to keep to a balanced diet but just more of it... maybe bump up the amount of 'healthier' high calorie foods a bit - brown rice, wholemeal pasta and breads, maybe a bit more fruit. You could of course eat plenty of junk food, but I imagine filling your system with that sort of stuff would probably make your health even worse!

Don't eat it, you put on weight by carrying it around in your pockets.

Copious amounts of alcohol did it for me Keith, 9.7-10.0 was my "best" weight. Not much exercise these days, and several bottles of wine per week - result, around 11.2 now.

You wont be wanting to go out in those Welsh winds that whip up from Oct onwards at 8.12 !!! at least not without carrying sandbags.

You seem to have a healthy diet, maybe buy some bigger plates - and that's not as daft as it sounds, as most people don't like too much bare plate when they're putting food out.

The only way of dieting that works for me is to eat the same things as usual, but less. So why not do this in reverse and just eat whatever you normally eat, but a bit more of it. Get in before the kids have scoffed everything, and have second helpings. :)

Add an extra meal each day to your daily intake, until you are regularly eating 6 meals a day! This should help.

Maybe a KFC a day will suffice.....nice new Zinger chicken....yummy :lickme

Keith When you were at your doctor you should have asked him or her what
would be best to eat to put on weight The other way is to study all your friends Find the person who is the weight you want to be and who is fit
Then copy their diet

Probably more due to muscle wastage sitting in front of the computer all day, tied to the fact I can't do much exercise anyway, but suppose an extra sheep a week should do it :ooo

Protein - you need more - eating loads of carbs will only help if you are the type of person who stores fat from sugar which at under 9 stone I doubt you will be!

Gaining weight is hard though - harder than losing it... Good luck!!

SPAM BIT - my wife could probably help you she sells protein shakes and stuff!!

END OF SPAM...

No it doesn't. I've been eating like that for around 15 years, and only lost weight the last few months.

The human body is only designed to correctly manage and survive on one meal a day. It was that way for 10,000's of years. It is only the last few centuries we have had an abundance of food we take for granted, and eat more than we need. It is only liquids we require throughout the day.

Scientists have also proven that those who eat only once meal a day, statistically live longer than those who have more than one (A few biscuits, or one sandwich is not classed as a meal, but a breakfast cereal is).

not sure where you heard that keith, but i have heard the exact opposit.
(but i guess like everything else, scientist can prove one thing, then prove the exact opposit). as the old 'hunter / gatherer' types uset to eat whenever food was available, so many small meals (whatever edible thing they found) throughout the day.

i don't know where the statistics come from, but eating 1 meal a day certainly isn't ideal. 6 small meals a day is meant to be the best for modern humans - the idea behind it is that the body never goes hungry and is always converting the food to energy.

You're agreeing with me. The eating of leaves, berries, etc was not a meal, the eating of the animal was a meal, and they only hunted at most once a day.

Proven many times by stats, and in the lab. Try reading unbiased sources like New Scientist, Scientific American, etc, who filter out all the crap, and University research papers. This is only recent discoveries though. I've been eating 1 a day for over a decade as it was all my body needed to survive, I never felt the need to eat more.

Eating too much out extra toxins in your system, and unless your eating other products to counteract this, the cause damage to DNA, and in can eventually lead to permanent damage to a cell, as they can only reproduce so many time in a life time as the DNA loses bits off the end, each time it splits.

Same here, only eaten one main meal a day for as long as I can remember. Used to have battles with my parents when I was a kid and they tried to force me to eat breakfast, I just wasn't hungry ... I'd set off walking to school with a slice of toast to appease them and feed it to the birds ! I do snack during the day, things like a banana,an avocado, a bit of cheese etc, then a big meal around 8pm. Always been perfectly healthy and have always been able to eat whatever I like without putting on weight. When my kids were small I let them eat when they were hungry - one's turned out like me, just eats the odd bit of fruit during the day, but the other likes her three meals a day at regular intervals. Maybe it just depends on your metabolism or something ? I've read the arguments for and against and I've no idea who's right, just makes sense to me to eat when I'm hungry so that's what I do.

The only time I do eat breakfast is when I'm on holiday and staying in a hotel or B&B ... maybe it's being a Scot, can't bear to be paying for something and not eat it ! :D
And what happens then is that I eat everything in sight at breakfast then a couple of hours later I'm hungry again ... I end up eating far more than normal and feeling horribly heavy and bloated.

Same here, as long as it isn't artery clogging material.

As long as I don't end up looking like a white Darfurian, and the doctor is worrying I don't really have a major problem, just be nice to get back to my average weight.........so it's a 1990's style school dinner a day regime then until I'm 22st :D

Ye, misinterpreted that, sorry :peeky

Seems logical to me. Why am I a skinny runt? I eat one meal a day. :)

Being told the healthiest way to eat is to have 6 meals a day is classing a "meal" as a portion of food. So 6 meals a day is far better than one, also scientifically proven.

i normally only eat one meal a day and am about twice the size of keith, never have i ate breakfast, and normally have to force myself to eat before 6pm.

i think something that has been missing is also probably the most important thing to mention - genetics, which play a far bigger role than diet / exercise ever will.

bigcumba

I don't overeat.... it's my hormones / metabolism / genes that have made me fat...

Actually I don't eat as much as folk think... on nights out they tend to be surprised if I don't finish a meal... well you gotta leave room for the 15 pints :D
