Is there a good beginners' guide to online poker somewhere? Either a website or a book? I used to play a lot of card games against my brothers as a teenager but I have never ventured into an online poker room and I have no idea of strategy.

Do you play for real money on Friday nights?

all online poker siter offer 'free play' so you arn't playing with real money, - though you do play against idiots. and can be a way of getting into poker. i sort of learnt from watching on TV (sky ch 843 is 24 hour poker).

the W2W game is usually sometime midweek and on sundays for small stakes. - usually 8:00 start time.

The Friday Night (and Sunday) games are small buy in tourneys (Usually around $2) and we are mainly playing for the prestige. It's a bit of fun and there are one or two friendly rivalries developing :)

Most sites have a 'beginner's guide' but I would suggest you simply read the rules and start playing - remember that most others have read the same strategy guides and they know what you're up to ;)

Just make sure you read "Vegy's guide to losing at poker".....and do the opposite :)

Don't watch the new Bond film for any tips. The poker in that film is all wrong and I am just about to start a massive rant about it ;fire
