NOTE:

This originally started off with 3% of the bank as the stake. I dropped to 2% after the bank hit 10K. Now that the bank is more than 20K, It is a good time to continue protecting it and drop the stakes to 1%. The bank stands at £25825.78, so the next stake will be £258.26.

it's an amazing profit for what appears to be a low strike rate. Even taking into account the huge win the other day you have still increased the opening bank by 1000%. Without looking through every page I guess you must have had quite a few good priced winners.

I had a decent win at Poker the other day so I have used all my winnings to open a Tote account and will use it just to follow your horses. It's money I can afford to lose (and the wife doesn't know about) so I'm looking forward to trialling your system, and lets hope it makes me happy.

wb
3rd May 2007, 16:15
Best of luck Counterfeit, as long as you can afford to lose should this go t*ts up!

I'd actually reccommend that you open a betfair account however, as the prices on some of the longshots were excellent, and I'm not sure how it would work with the tote.

Regarding staking - use a % of the bank as the stake. I started off with a high risk 3% in order to build the bank quickly. The SR is 20% so 2% stakes should be fine. At the moment, I'm using 1% as I want to protect the profit now.

very nice prices - looks like a good system.

Do you use a real or mythical bank?

wb
5th May 2007, 13:10
Yep, so far so good....actually, it's not really a system, more method betting and form study. I use a real bank, but the starting bank was €400 not £1000. I've withdrawn a bit to pay for a flight to the states but thankfully it's still quite high.

Thanks everyone. Another good day with a 22.0 winner, and the bank hits another all time high of over 30K.

The Irish racing has been throwing up some great prices. One possible advantage that I may have in Irish racing is the fact that there is only one main handicapper - Noel O' Brien (even though he has less races to assess than the UK guys).

Noel is a great handicapper, but he has to assess every race, and give each horse a mark, so is prone to errors now and again which can be exploited.

UK racing has a team of handicappers, but the fact that there are thousands of horses running each week also leaves them open to mistakes.

Yep, thanks Eddie. That's the problem with method betting compared to systems.. it dents the confidence after a while. At least with systems, you have the confidence of letting the stats do their thing, but when they are your own selections it can hurt with so many losers in a row - simply because you have no long term back-up of historical losing runs etc, and then you start to question your ability and try your best not to change things and to remain consistent.

We've often talked privately about the fact that one could know everything about horses, yet not know how to gamble.........good selections require even better staking, and lucky for me the changes I made to protect the bank have worked.

Thankfully, I've had an incredible season on this, so as the NH bets wind down, I hope to get a few more nice bets in.

Nothing is standing out for Friday so no bets.

I got 40 for Linden Boy and would have been 50 if I'd had a bit more patience .... well happy with 40 though and very glad I kept the faith during the losing run, having seen it happen twice before I knew a big priced winner was due any time ! :REGamblMo

I'll update the stats tomorrow :)

I had an absolutely crazy day. I left home to go out for a pint at about 7pm (facing a €350 loss). You can imagine my shock and delight when I got home to see a P&L profit!! I thought Arthur Guinness was playing tricks for a moment, but thankfully, we've done the business again!

I know some people used to follow this, so I'm just updating with what's happening. I did a big review recently and it simply does not work during the summer months. This is based on the Jumps, and its lack of success during the summer is more than likely due to the infrequency of NH racing and horses running off the 'wrong' marks during these months. During the summer, the bank lost around 7K. The bank is still over £23K (starting bank was £1000), so that's a good position to be in. I've put the bank on freeze until mid October, at which point I'll pick it up again.

Wayne.

Thanks Greenhorn. Even though I lost money on this during the summer, 23K is an amazing start going into the new season. I don't expect the crazy success I achieved last season, but even if I doubled the bank I'd be pleased.

Last year, it increased by 30, which would make it £690,000 next year should things go the same :laugh. Somehow I doubt I'll be that good!!

Thanks everyone. Its a very tall order indeed trying to replicate last seasons success, but I'm playing with profit, so that makes it a bit easier. I'm not going to set myself targets - if I keep this in profit, even if its a small profit, then that's success in itself.

Nice start today to get some of the recent loss back. Got De La Rue at 13.0 on the exchanges, which goes to show how scabby the on-course layers are on certain Irish races (6/1 SP).

I got 13.5 then went downstairs to watch the race. I was surprised at how the price collapsed. A nice profilt on the day. :)

Yeah, nice call on Chivalry WB - he ran huge...

If I'd been thinkin I'd have had a seperate ew nibble on him as well... with the weather yesterday, it made racing a little bit more of a lottery than usual imo.

What ever happened to the good old days of 75.0 winners and the like. :(

I'll keep going to the spring and see if I can recover. At least it's still in profit of over 12K, which is a great achievement in itself. It's been hard losing so much money though. This bank was once 30K+ :ermmm

Anyhow...
