a great British rock band now... started life as Southern Death Cult back in the early 80's as a goth / post punk outfit. Became Death Cult when guitarist Billy Duffy joined form Theatre Of Hate, and then simply The Cult by 1984-85. They've gone from psychedelic goths to out and out rockers and touched many other styles in between. Singer Ian Astbury also does a great job filling in for Jim Morrison in the sort of reformed Doors - now called 'Riders On The Storm'. 3 songs here from the early days (my favourite era of the band), and are all classics, still often played live - Spiritwalker, Go West and Resurrection Joe. The amazing guitar sound comes from Duffy's use of a Gretsch semi acoustic White Falcon.. a very nice guitar indeed!

The album called 'LOVE' is a belter. My favourite track on that album is 'Big Neon Glitter' when it came out I'd never heard anything like it before. There was another group that had a similar sound to the cult around that time who were called Killing Joke and their best song was without doubt a track called 'Love Like Blood' :Kilt: :)

I saw Killing Joke around that time as well Frontrunner, brilliant band! Jaz Coleman is a strange but amazing frontman and rather scary! The track I particularly liked was 'Eighties', a very aggressive ratnt about all that was wrong with that decade, and with a great video to go with it... and again the amazing guitar sound was from a semi acoustic job.. the band are still around and still making exceptional music. I remember they did both those tracks on the Tube on channel 4.. and on the same program was someone in a similar vein... Cliff Richard! :yikes: What a weird combination that was!

The Cult Love album is a classic indeed, the last one they did before going to a more straight ahead AC/DC style rock sound on the Electric album

3 excellent tracks there BigC. 'She sells sanctuary', is STILL in my top 10. It's a bit mainstream but I love it.
Having said that there are about 500 songs in my top 10.:D

I remember hearing Resurrection Joe for the first time and instantly changed my taste in music from synth pop to grungy rock. I remember the excitement of listening to all that sort of stuff for the first time (Sisters, Mission, Nephilim, Rose Of Avalanche, All About Eve, Killing Joke etc).

I spent about 4 years from 17 to 21 in a total drunken haze. I can't remember most of it due to beer, speed and dope but I'm told I had a great time.

I do remember going to see Siouxsie in concert and she wore a wedding dress (which was bizarre but very horny) and then going to see The Mission next week, where about 8 to 10 groupies turned up in wedding dresses. Weird, just weird.

Great music there mate... only one I never got to see was the Sisters, Killing Joke were incredible, saw them on the Love Like Blood tour and they were brilliant. Jaz Coleman is one scary frontman, and that guitar sound of Geordie is totally unique! The Mission were always great fun, loved their version of Neil Young's 'Like a Hurricane', and you couldn't get more goth than the Nephilim. All About Eve seemed to tour with the Mission regularly as well, and she had a gorgeous voice.. as for Siouxsie.... saw them many a time as well, she had a similar effect on me too!
