Hey guys i am hotel bound this weekend and will be in need of using the hotels wireless internet , what hardware do i need to purchase as to utilise it as i haven't got wireless at home i don't have anything thanks sc

Some kind of aerial that fits into a USB port, i think. Anywhere between $8-15 from your nearest PC shop, where they will tell you exactly. Someone more knowledgable than me might be able to confirm this though.

Even though you may have a line going into your laptop at home, some laptops have built in ariels that will pick up wireless signals. A lot of hotels/train stations/ etc. provide the signal that your laptop should pick up for free. If your laptop does not have this built in, as GS said - there is a little plug-in thingy that you can buy in any computer shop.
Don't ask me for any of the technical terms, that's glos' job:)
