or anyone else who might know.
I have dozens of separate spreadsheets for my systems and methods. I also have a separate 'Today's Stakes' spreadsheet which I update manually and print off to see what the stake is on each of the days selections.
Is it possible to link this to my system spreadsheets so that 'Today's Stakes' spreadsheet updates itself automatically, and I don't have to enter the days stakes on each system manually?
I hope I'm explaining this well. :geek
Thanks.

Yeah, you just need to set formulae in the Today's Stakes workbook to link to the other workbooks.
So you'd enter something like:
='[wb's excellent new system.xls]Sheet1'!$A$1
into the Today's Stakes workbook where the referenced cell in the other s/sheet contains the stake in question.
Why are they not all just sheets in the same workbook though?
Thanks a lot Mat, This will save me a good bit of time. I had them all in the same workbook, but when it lost data a while back, all systems were effected. I figured it would be safer to keep them separate until I find out how it happened.
I'm getting a #NAME error message. If the files are not in the same workbook, do I have to enter anything else? I know from HTML that you have to use /. to step up out of folders etc.

Easiest way to do it is to open all the workbooks and in Today's Stakes.xls click in the cells you want to display the stakes and press = then use your mouse to select the appropriate cell in the other workbook and hit enter. The formula is then added into the right cell in Today's Stakes.xls. Job done.
When you then open Today's Stakes.xls again you'll be prompted that it contains links to other files and do you want to update the linked info or not. If you say yes there it will try and find all the linked files and update the linked values. If you have moved/renamed/deleted any of the linked files this will fail and you will need to correct the formulae.
Great, thanks (yet again) Mat.
I think I'll look for a good excel book.
