I use Dvd Flick, its free but I would think there are better paid for versions out there? Takes about an average of 2 hours to convert a movie using this...

www.avsmedia.com (http://www.avsmedia.com)

A suite of tools and well worth $49 - but there's an extra discount to drop it down to $39 for the 4-tool pack.

There are other useful tools and converters for most multimedia formats.

I mainly use the tools to rip DVDs for use on my AV700 - it allows conversion to most formats and there's another tool that will convert and burn DVDs (and I think you can even add menus - although I have never used this feature).

I use this one as it handles vobsub and .srt subtitle files

If you can get a copy of Power Producer Gold, you can set up menus, background music etc to make it a wee bit more professional looking.

I use Nero Vision Express for what it's worth. Does the job for me.

Bigc...had a go with this software....how do you get it to just compress it so if fits onto one dvd or is this not possible to your knowledge? I know I can change the settings, it seemed to be on 4200Mb but unlike other software, it doesnt seem to shrink to fit unless Im doing something wrong? :doh Any help appreciated! :D

What size of avi file are you trying to convert Scooby? I use it to convert DivX and Xvid movies of around 700Mb (CD size) to DVD. You can change that 4200 Mb setting to around 4500 for starters, then adjust quality in the advanced settings. One thing you need to watch out for is the frame rate of the avi's. The software defaults to 23.976 frames per second, but if your file is say 25fps you'll get a rather jumpy looking conversion. Before you do it right click on the file you want to convert and check the properties to get the frame rate. It only gives it in while numbers so if it says 23, you can leave the software as is, but if it's 25 you need to change that in the advanced settings. You can also set it up so the DVD burner part of the program kicks in automatically when conversion is finished.

Thanks for the reply Bigc....yes they are DivX and Xvid movies of around 700Mb but some are in 2 discs, which is not a problem for the software as such but was just putting them into 2 discs....most frames rates seem to 23 I think. Messed around with setings and seemed to be ok.

I actually found another piece of software last night, WinAvi http://www.winavi.com/ and this is very similar to the one you posted but does seem to put it on one disc if possible by changing the advanced settings...very fast as well. Most impressed, much better than the free one I was using! :ermmm
