bit of a mixed bag today.i got to stop for the day before tilt sets in.the number of times i lost all in calls with the best hand was no-ones business, the worst being jj vs j9 spades only to lose to a flush on the river.have a look at these games i won.the first one i played a guy that would bet at everything and wouldnt believe that i had an 8.the second one the guy must have been gutted, after i caught a straight on the flop.
the end of the day i was only up $16 dollars, but its been a cracker of a week, winning over $800

looking back on the week i have to hold my hand up and say i played a lot of games badly(calling all ins with only a draw).also i,ve had a lot of bad luck, but tomorrow is the start of a new week and i must change my frame of mind,as poker is a psychological game.

Good to see you're back to winning ways.

I've had the most bizarre poker day! Having gotten rivered with the best hand to start with about 5 times in succession I just went mad and blew the rest of my roll (from my old site not my serious one) on a bigger than usual STT. First hand I have 45 with a board of 33355, I bet get raised and call hoping theres no 4th 3 out there. Of course there is. The very next hand I flop a str8, get little bit of action, claw it back to evens. Few hands later, a board of 2TTT9 and I have JJ, I bet and get raised again, surely I can't be quadded out twice in one game?!?! Yup, sure can, and yet still had 800 in chips, I then flop a flush the very next hand :laugh pure madness. Carry on...:waver

someone give me a good kick up the:butthead:.
when i started this thread i said i was playing triple ups,but i've strayed onto the 10 on a table tourneys.
i've said all along that it is much harder to make money on those tables than it is to make money on the triple ups.
if you think logically it must be easier to knock out 2 and grab the pot, than it is to knock out 7 to make a divi.
today i played 3,10 on a table tourneys and failed miserably to fish,so i said to myself "why arn't i winning so much any more",and the answer is,my strength in poker is heads up or triple up.
so the rest of the day that is all i've stuck to for 8 hours and won an impressive 283 dollars

definate chips day today.most of the games today i found out i was playing idiots within the first 5 hands, the reason being they would raise in the region of 4-5 bb preflop, and the when the winner is revealed he ends
up with hands like 89.
once you got this information, you get a warm glow, and the confidence oozes.and as soon as you get the big hand and you get raised, just move all in.
i got paid off so many times today i was getting bored.
so!!! passed the $500 mark on the week and feeing quite good about myself.
the only blip on the day was,i laid france @1.22 for £100,so i lost £22,but all in all very pleased

not the best of luck yesterday down $60,but i did enter the $80000 guarenteed at a cost of $96.
i've now gone out of these big tourneys with the same hand 5 times in a row(pocket kings),and each time, either the ace comes out or someone gets trips,so that is my bogey hand

biggest fish day of the year yesterday,so bad that i swiched to betfair poker(in which i hate but made a profit).
i wouuld raise subtantially with hage pairs only to get called with rag cards, and then get outdrawn.in one hand a 4567 come out and i had 89 and moved all in,only to get beaten with a 67 when another 6 come out.
so well done to the fish yesterday costing me$195

i think this is going down to be the most draining week of poker that i have played.
on the way that i've played i should be up near 6-7 hundred dollars by now.
the number of times i've been in front on the turn, only to lose on the river is laughable, most of the time they got a 6% chance of hitting.
so the close of play today i am 115 dollars in profit, but still down on the week:cryer

no mate i dont use any software,i am a tight/agressive player,i only play one table at a time,i cant play multi-tables,there is too much going on at one time.
and yes matt this is a sit n go $20 buy in.i dont have the confidence to play big stakes for cash.
any advice for a novice player? yes be very selective with your starting hands, pairs and ace picture kicker,if you hit your trips you will win most of the time

not a good day really to start my life on the dole again.
had a lot of bad beats, the worste being my ace 5 against his kk when the flop comes up 55j.he gives me a cheap look and then moves all in on the flop, and what happens, spade, spade to give him a flush;fire how lucky is that.
i must have had the best hand 90% of the time yesterday at the time of shoving, only to get outdrawn.

so first day i lost $10 which is not too bad but other days it could had been up $200

eruptive plot
11th February 2009, 09:25
day 2 on the dole;
another fish day;fire
i just cant believe getting beaten with the best hand for most of the day against bad odds for the monkeys.
for example my kk vs a2 spades. blinds are 25/50 he raises to 100 i raise to 200,he calls. a rainbow hits with no big cards he raises big at me,so i push.he calls to no surprise(fish) spade spade.
another example when the blinds are 50/100.i catch 2 2s with a nothing hand but 2 clubs are on the flop.i bet 200 he calls knowing hes chasing a flush,so i push giving him an even money bet when he is a 3/1 shot, and surprise surprise jack of clubs;fire.
so day 2 $13 profit from 7 hours play.

bloody brilliant

Exactly. Something I learned WAY too late, that. If you play your hands well, and make correct moves, it doesn't really matter what happens. You know you did the right thing.

Keep it up EP - watching with a lot of interest as I'm currently "in-limbo" poker-wise at the moment... good luck fella you can beat 'em, you've proven that already. :)

day 3 on the dole.
this was a game of 2, 4 hour sessions, or should i say a game of 2 halves.
the first session everything held up and won about $110. but in the second session my first game was a 10 man $30 sng.on the very first hand i was in early position with kk and decided that i would raise 200 and then push if no ace come out.so i gets one call of 200 and the flop comes out,4jq(rainbow),playing first i pushes and my caller has jj,so thats the end of that one.
then i play a few hours of $20 triple ups, losing more than i was winning, including getting aces busted, but the final staw was this,a 10 man $20 sng.i manages to make the final 3 so im guarenteed $40,the blinds are 300/600 so we are at the push or fold stage.what happens next only beggars belief.the guy is playing first and don’t raise so i see a full house on the flop.he then pushes and i get a warm feeling inside, thinking ace 6 or king anything.
anyway you just got to call that.
see the outcome below

not too happy last night though,i had a $10 & $20 sitngo running at the same time, and my isp went down for half an hour. by the time i got back on the tables the blinds were 100/200, and i got 800 left.at the same time i had ak and aq and moved all in on both tables only to get taken out by fish sharks with excellent 10j and k8;fire.

playing 10 man tables gives me time to get betting selections, spreadsheet them, and place them. i dont get that time playing triple ups as you have got to make a decision every 10 seconds or so.

ok to call a raise is a bit of a gamble with king 2 but once you have hit in such a way,you have got to go for the jugular there and then.
i am no poker shark but i know the importace of position on the table, there is nothing better than watching everyone commit their chips and you are last to act with near nuts at that point.
as for the ak vs kk i know he had the best hand and he deserved it,but i was all in preflop and once that ace has hit he has vitually no chance of winning, its just one of those things

having the button is far less relevant when stack sizes are shallow and your just going to get yourself in trouble unless you make 2 pair or trips which is going to happen a very small % of the time. When you just flop a pair, you are going to be dominated when getting it all-in a very high % of the time.

but february this year i become a victim to the credit crunch and lost my job as storeman in a company that made washer systems for cars.
however i carried on playing these fish infested 10 man tables.
i have made a small profit and luckily had a spare grand floating in my account,in which i have withdrawn most of it.
so getting to the point of this post,im going back to triple ups as from now for business, and will still play the odd fish fests for entertainment but not many at all.
yesterday was a horrible time for me lost again with any 2 to sharks that are down thousands of $$$$ on the site.
but late last night i played 3 triple ups,and won 2 of them.and do you know what,IT FELT GOOD.
the bottom line is i want to see the flops,i want to play my hands, and if i think that i got you,i will take yer chips

ive spent all week working 12 hour shifts,so i have only spent 4 hours playing poker, one hour saturday morning and 3 hours saturday evening, but to win £170 in that time is something else, considering i lost my first 2 games of the day(10+20 man tables).the triple ups stood me in good stead, sitting there like a coiled snake waiting to pounce.the trick to winning these games is waiting until you can beat pocket aces, just let the others bet at you and then ask a serious question on the river.:wiggle:

its a hell of a long trip to get here,we had a 9 hour flight to mineapolis and then a 2 and a half hour flight to slc.all in all it took 24 hours to get from my front door to the hotel ,so im a bit cream crackered at the moment.

all in all it was one hell of a good trip.i've done yellowstone before, but it was just as good second time around.the scenery there is second to none.
ive uploaded a few pics from yellowstone, the first on is from jackson lake with the grand teton mountain range in the background.then we got the bison roaming around,(not to be messed around with),then we got the grand canyon of yellowstone.you have got to be there to really appreciate it.and the last one is of the hot mammoth springs.so if ever you fancy a trip to the states i would highly reccomend yellowstone and all the area around it.
as for the wedding it went really well,we had it in a park on a wooden gazebo,we all had a blast.
but coming back to the thread of poker, its been quite a shocker,a nice start by discovering i had a $95 bonus to add to my account.didnt really win or lose too much untill friday and saturday evening to the 25% sharks who would call all ins as long as the hit any card only to outdraw me.so at the end of the week ive lost that $95 plus $140 more::swear

its one of 2 games matt.
either $10,10 man tables where its 50,30,20%,or triple up where winner takes all $10 or $20.
and i have realy got to get into the mentality that i had 2 years ago when i won $18k.
i play 10 man table so that i can browse the tinternet early on and then take notice when the blinds jump up.
triple ups is a specialist game just like heads up(more psychological).that is where i won the bucks playing those.
how about you matt are you still playing sit n gos,and what types?

I came off the $10 STTs on PokerStars on Monday when I had a real stinker losing $120 not playing that badly. I had also reached a milestone I had set myself of 150 such events and wanted a slight change of scenery so switched to my former love of limit cash games. I am starting to regret that decision after the past couple of days though.

Poker is a full time thing for me now. I have the time and am trying to spend around 40 hours a week (at least) playing. I just need to find a game I am happy to play that much and that I can grind out a profit in but I am still struggling to handle downswings. I don't know if my recent results are just part of natural variance or whether my game has slipped so much I am a proper loser. I think from my records it's the former but confidence is a big part of my game and that is draining away with my bankroll.

not a bad week all in all winning around $120.but yesterday was a real stinker when the river drowned me.
i had the nut flush in one hand on the turn only for someone to go all in with trips and then the board paired up to give him a full house(80%+ on the turn)
and then later i had 99 dealt, the hand went 150 call call preflop,,i got the dealer button, the flop comes out 349 rainbow, then it went 330 fold and at that point i had to let him know that he was in danger of getting busted out with a raise to 660.he must have been thinking "got him with my pocket queens",so he moves all in,so i automatically calls knowing that im 90%+ even if hes holding aces.then the devil poker gods moved in with a jack on the turn and a queen on the river;fire.
days like that are just soooooo frustrating so yesterday was a bad start to the week losing around $50

in 4 games on the flop i was 90% and lost the lot,i was getting 2 pair just like my piranah friend only for him to hit the other one to give him a full house.
i know i play profitible poker, even sharkscope has put a shark next to my name, but that just dont matter when you get beaten by 8% shots.
its just so ::swear frustrating at the moment.

this has got to be the toughest week of poker that i have ever encounterd.
i have never had as many sets beat in the last 2 years as i have this week,it is just demoralising.10% chances are just beating me all of the time.
but yesterday betfair phoned me up to do a survey and offered me a game of up to $55 on any table on bf poker and if i lose i would be refunded.
i played a $50+5, 6 man stt.i kept my cool during the whole game, never allowed any fish into the pot whenever i had a monster and won the tournament with a handsome payout of $180.
so that makes it a break even week,or there abouts.could be worste.

and just about every time someone got a pp they hit to make a set.
since ive come back from my wedding ive lost around $400.i'd have normally won around $4-6 hundred with my style of play,so this it a massive swing in the wrong direction.

from sunday night until tuesday i played 28 stt's (10 man tables) and lost 27 of them:yikes:.and that is a personal record for me,and you can guarentee i was getting my chips in with the best hand 90% of the time only to lose out to those sharks again.quote of the week in the chatboard was when i pushed with my kk and lost to a shark with jq he called me an idiot;fire.
i pulled a bit back since tuesday but still lost in the region of $180(how embarassing).
i told myself from then 10 man stts are for fun and triple ups are for business.so from now on i am going back to business for 90% of the time and have a 10 man stt as a last game of the evening

eruptive plot
23rd October 2009, 22:42
what the::swear have i been doing this year on the poker tables.
i tell everyone to avoid the 10 man stts, and what do i do?,i play them continuously day after day after day, hours on end.
over the years i have won somewhere in the region of $26k on pacific(888).and if i break down my winnings its in the region of
1 $18k on triple ups/heads up
2 $5k multi table tourneys(ultra tight play) aa or kk nothing less
3 $3k on 10 man stts.
the stats says it all,on the triple ups you get to see around 80-90% of flops which is what i want.i just love calling a preflop raise in position and hitting big and then let him fill the pot for you.
anyway back to results, this week i reverted back to triple ups on wednesday evening and won $200 up until now for the week.
i just feel mad with myself for changing my game for soooo long.
i feel as though ive thrown away $3-4k this year.

yes generally matt,$10 9 man tables.
but this morning i came second in a $10, 45 man tornament winning somewhere in the region of $112.
once i get upto around $500 if i do,i'll move up to $20 tables.

they are all $24 to enter and some of them have up to $8k for winning them

after the first week on full tilt i have got to say that "i'm very happy".
ive played 56 games of $10 sit n gos and im up $275.by the way it took 56 games to get my first $20 bonus out of the $300 that i deposited.
the quickest way to get the bonus is to play heads up as they dont take long to complete.
my roi has dropped to 45% from the 107% that i achieved in the first 2 days, that is still good though.
as i mentioned last week i am very interested in multi tables.
ive played 5 or 6 $10,45 man tables and ive came second twice ($112) and a third ($72),so that is just about my total profit playing these.
as for the site, its the biggest and the best. you are guarenteed to play a game almost instantly at any time of the day,and they have tournaments running all the time with 1000+ entries with huge payouts. for a $10 entry into one of these you can win $3k.
love it:thumbs

first instance my 89d vs qd kh with 3 diamonds on the flop i pushed only for a 7th diamond to hit the hand ;fire
second instance i moved to the rush poker tables,i got 66 and im against ah 9h and kk, the flop comes down 6h 7h tc, 2 players before me bets $1 so to protect my set i bets £13 only for another heart to hit the river;fire.
third instance was the icing on the cake and made me sick to the core.i got qq on the button when the blinds are 5c/10c.i bets 55c preflop and gets 2 callers, the flop comes down jqk and gets bet at,so quickly again i moves all in with a $10 bet to protect my set in case he has an ace or ten but no he calls with his jj.and what comes out next? another ::swear jack.so a 4% shot puts $10 in and takes the pot again;fire.
