View Full Version : Too many runs for Mickmacmagoole?

Evan Williams always seems to run his horses to often, yet never gets into trouble for it. Mickmacgoole is easily the form choice for the Taunton 350 today, but how he can be anywhere near his best after 3 previous runs in 8 days I've got no idea. He had a tough time last time out against a decent horse. If he pulls up today Williams should be fined.

I'm not going to lay him as he has already taken a drift in the market and he's way ahead on my figures, but one to watch.

He'll probably trot home now by ten lengths:rolleyes:

If you have a horse in form, run it. Some horses thrive on constant running. Besides, what do you think it is doing at home everyday on the gallops & schooling track? Basically running a race!

If the horse doesn't want to run or jump, trust me, it won't.

Horses need time to recover. Some stayers can lose over 40kgs of their body weight during a race. Not only that, but jumping makes them sore.

Paula Radcliffe runs over 100 odd miles a week, but she would hardly be competetive if she ran two marathons on successive days and I would hardly compare running a few hundred metres at a time at 70% at home with running 2miles in 4 minutes on the race track.

Horses that need short intervals between races are rare and are mainly monkey flat horses that have trouble keeping condition on.

I was more concerned for the punter then the horse.

Not only that, but jumping makes them sore.

They've told you this have they? :doh You say 'CAN LOSE', some hardly lose anything. You'll see horses finish a NH race that could go round again.

I think a 1/2 ton horse is a bit bigger than Twiglet Radcliffe, not a very good comparison :laugh

The trainer knows the horse better than anyone, and if something was wrong he wouldn't run it. On top of that, the BHA ensure all horses are checked before the race, and it is running within the rules.

Look at Ireland, standard practice to run more than once a week over there.

Here's another point....

If a horse runs 2m 2f.......then 24hrs later runs 2m 2f........is that not better than a horse running a 2m 2f race, and straight after with no rest running another 2m 2f's? We call it the Grand National :thumbs

I think the best point to make is - what was the result of the race?????

Would have come last if it hadn't beaten the field

Yep, got it completely wrong. I wasn't the only one though judging by the early morning price.
