I've just had my first ever tooth extraction... one of my lower wisdom teeth had started to break up after the new year and my own dentist gave me a fright when he said it was a bit too complicated for him to do so he referred me to someone else (at least he was honest enough about it). Anyway just over an hour ago it was pulled.... no complications thankfully (so far) ... I'm still rather numb, though it's just starting to wear off, and I'm waiting for the pain to kick in. Not allowed to eat or drink till it wears off, and no hot drinks for a few days - not a problem for me as I don't drink tea or coffee anyway. Just wondering now what the tooth fairy will bring me.:D

I know what sort of jokes this invites but I'm going to say it anyway: I have no wisdom teeth :D
I found out from my dentist when I was about 14 or 15. He was looking puzzled at an x-ray and then said something like "How odd, you've got no wisdom teeth. You'll be glad of that when your older"

Hopefully the fairy won't be passing on her way back from Kempton Park where tonight they are having a 'dress up as a girl and get in free' day :ooo

Unusual Mat, but not totally unheard of - I think there are a small number of folk that happens to. 'm just glad mine grew in straight and not impacted in any way. My other one on the bottom set is still totally buried - only found that out last week when I went for the initial check with this other dentist and had a full x-ray done. What pissed me off a while back is that my first dentist down here decided one day out of the blue that I needed to have all 4 wisdom teeth out - no reason given. That was when I decided he was a prat and went elsewhere - luckily a new practice had opened and were taking NHS patients - asked him about them and he said nowt wrong with them and couldn't see any reason to take them out as long as they were giving me no problems.

my dentist was like that - 'take em out', had no problems with them whatsoever. but he pulled them anyway. they didn't hurt though so you should be ok.

Remember having one of mine out a few years ago. I had it done at my local hospital and remember once the injection wore off and was in :censored: agony. Luckly the injection made me drowsy and delerious, so I just slept through it till the following day.

The numbness has well gone now, and there's definitely a fairly serious dull ache, but maybe not quite as bad as I expected.... as long as it doesn't get worse. Managed to eat a bowl of bolognese, no spag though - that would have been too messy! Drinking through straws as well... think I'll leave the beer till the weekend though!

My dentist had to refer me to the oral surgeon at the local hospital because he like your dentist didn't feel that he could do it. The good lady had to have her 4 wisdom teeth taken out all in one go :yikes: If I remember rightly if you put some whisky on a piece of cotton wool & put it on the gap where the tooth was it should make you feel a bit better but remember Campbell only put a little drop of whiskey on the cotton wool :thumbs

You lot don't realise how lucky you have it.
Last time I went to the dentist,
he referred me to the local builders yard! :(

:laugh luckily Frontrunner I don't like the taste of whisky much so I'd only use it for medicinal purposes anyway. The dentist suggested just washing it out with salted water regularly - basically just keeping it as clean as possible, and taking painkillers when needed.
