:happyboun Hi, this is my very first post.I have been looking for a site like this for about 2 years. I have read discussions and just need some help for a new boy. I realise that this is old 'old hat' for u guys but ...
SR ?
AW = AAall weather?
NH = National Hunt?
Paper trading?
Bank barrier?
Also, is it possible to post tips and if so where. I am surprised by how seldom users of this site post their own tips?
Last, but important question. If the RPR is the top rated horse in the Racing Post, then why is in not the favourate and sometimes even the last in the betting? I am obviously missing loads here and can almost hear you guys laughing but humour me.... why doesnt a horse with the top RPR and sometimes a huge difference to the next horse listed automatically become the favourite? Sometimes it is say with a horse with a RPR of 98 and the next horse is rated 81, the horse with 98 is odds on but this pattern does not follow a logical process. Sometimes a horse rated 78 is 25/1 and a horse listed 65 is 9/4 fav. There must be an explanation. Can you help a novice!
Thanks
Steve

Bank barrier?SR = strike rate, AW and NH you've got, yep. Paper trading means recording the bets and settling them as normal but not actually putting any money on them. Virtual betting if you like. Bank barriers are a professional punter way of protecting the bank against losses but I'm not going to go into detail here.
Also, is it possible to post tips and if so where. I am surprised by how seldom users of this site post their own tips?Of course it is possible to post your tips, and quite a lot of the forum regulars do. Look here (http://www.win2win.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=34) and pick the most appropriate section depending on how good your tips are
Last, but important question. If the RPR is the top rated horse in the Racing Post, then why is in not the favourate and sometimes even the last in the betting? Because they are just two different opinions on who will win the race. The highest RPR rating is the horse who the Racing Post rates highest based on their computer ratings whereas the favourite is the horse the betting public think is most likely to win. Both are just opinions really. Something else to bear in mind is that the horse is only part of the equation. A horse may have a really good RPR but be entered into a race that is too long/short or on ground that is too soft/hard for it to run it's ideal race. It may have a bad jockey on board today. The stable may be out of form. It may be carrying too much weight as a penalty for previous wins. If the public see too many factors against a horse, even though it may be streets ahead in the RPRs, they probably won't make it favourite.

So.... what does the diferent percentages below each bookmaker on the online RP racecard mean. The race I am studying today is the 3.50 at Great Leighs. I am backing Basra because 1. it has the highest RPR rating 2. It is 6 points higher than the next RPR rating and the jockey is a 3Ib claimer. 3. Its run three times already this season and although 6th last 2 times out is known to run better on the AW (polytrack). 4. Has beaten several of these including Mataram who is higher in the betting. I am way off beam here or is the 2% of bank EW (4% total) way off beam. And the experts out there cried out .........
