10 Years ago, it was only £500 for 12 months!!! Luckily that works out at only 2.5% inflation eh Mr Brown? :doh

We got our electricity/gas bill the other day and it was nearly £500. I checked the meter readings they had used and they were estimated - badly! Our electricity meter reading was over 2000 out (27xxx instead of 29xxx). I phoned them up to get a new bill with updated readings before they took the opportunity to increase our direct debit. We've currently got it so at the end of a quarter we are only perhaps 1 payment in credit but normally these places like to up the direct debit significantly meaning you can be a few hundred in credit at the end of a quarter but they really don't like to reduce your payments, for some reason.

All the muppets in our village who took up the councils offer of grants for oil central heating (supposed to be greener putting CO2 directly in the village :doh), are now paying the price with the oil.....and they reckon it'll hit $200 a barrel.......think I'd better start looking at a Smart Car :ooo

Dear All,
Over the past years we had a very advantageous deal with the electric supplier which has now expired.
We have renegotiated the bes tdeal we can for a bulk supply but this will prove a significant increase to your utility bill.
We have no alternative but to pass these charges on, but the Landlords have said that they will not be reviewing the rents this year as a means of helping to contain your overall costs.
We would ask you to remember that this single charge for the electric covers heating, hot water and cooking and is in line with the combined costs generally charged for flats.

Good job I'm moving eh. :thumbs

I dont think i can use that much gas or Electric really as the bills never seem to be as much as other people.
I currently pay £22.00 per month to the electric and tend to build up about £100 credit after a couple of years so I would guess my electric works out at around £200 a year. The gas I pay Quarterly and the last bill I had covering Jan, Feb and March came to £93.00 and I think the largest gas bill I have ever had is £115.00. In the summer it tends to be about £50.00 so I probably spend £300 a year on gas giving me a yearly total of about £500.00 for fuel.

Thats what I dont understand.
I dont ever think of turning down the heating and I dont have all the supposed energy saving measures either.
My house is small so maybe i just dont have to use much energy to keep it warm and lit.
