It seems that Joe Satriani thinks that Coldplay have stolen large portions of the song 'If I Could Fly' (2004) for their 'Viva La Vida' (2008) song. He has filed a lawsuit in L.A and "is seeking damages and any and all profits for the alleged plagiarism." Underneath are the 2 songs...be interested what people think of this. You are the jury...you decide! :ooo

I think Mr Satriani is talking a load of rubbish, I'm afraid, much as I like his music.

The two songs "sound" similar, as in they're in the same key, but so do a lot of songs. I've heard much more blatant rip-offs than this.

There are similarities but I think more so in the vocal melody from the chorus matching Satriani's guitar (just past the minute mark)

Like John says, much more obvious rip offs than that. Ice Ice Baby - Under Pressure for example! How about the intro of Don't Look Back In Anger and Imagine too.

its tenuous at best and as Johnny says they are in the same key , chords are quite simple progression in my opinion and it is most likely coincidental

Well, I managed to listen to more of Joe Satriani than I did of Coldplay :butthead:. Both were bloody awful. :dung
