How are rep scores calculated?

I went into my User CP to change my avatar and noticed my rep score was 1305 points. I had 17 rep comments and my rep shows up as 11.

So, what does it all mean?

Every time someone gives you rep you get a number of points equal to their rep power. So if you were to give someone rep they'd gain 11 points. Your rep power increases as you post more, the longer you've been a member and probably in line with your own rep points.
