Has come out and given an apology for the mistake he made in the Spuds-Man U game.

I think his apology is fair enough, he's given a decent enough explanation. I know for certain that the Sporting Life guy doing the text commentary called it the same way before seeing the replay.

SO I hope now that big mouth Jenas comes out and apologises. Criticising the referee because he made the decision instantly. Why wouldn't he if he thought it was a penalty? Idiot.

And so too all the commentators and analysts who have criticised him. Especially some big mouth on Setanta Sports News who was banging on about officials not being answerable and explaining their decisions.

And David Pleat was at it last night criticising the referee and to paraphrase "even though he hadn't made any big errors". These guys can't win. His major criticism was the Barcvelona chance late on when an injured Ballack was playing Hleb onside. READ THE RULES YOU ****WIT, he doesn't have to stop the game unless it's a head injury!

Glad I got that off my chest! :D

But it was simple physics that said it wasn't a pen! :doh And by apologizing he cocked up, all those slating him were right to do so. Fergie was further away and said it wasn't a pen! :splapme

Fair enough the ball trajectory changed twice, but when you're basically at pitch level, and about 15-20 yards away it can be difficult to see that! Like he said, he saw carrick touch it and thhe ball go left, it's quite easy to see how he gave the penalty!

The FA have a lot to answer for with their reviewing of red cards. Whatever happens in a footbal match over 90 minutes in the flow of the game should stand! That's how it was perceived at the time and that's how it should be!

Does he get a bonus off ManU for the 'assist'? :laugh

And when did the rule come in that touching the ball nmeans you are allowed to foul someone, I still find that hard to get to grips with! Still a foul isn't it? Isn't it? How is it not? Tell me so I understand! Someone?

I totally agree with this. Looking at the replay from behind the goal it looked as the ball changed direction only once. Now, rotate 180 degrees which was the position of the ref and again you would not be able to see the 2nd change in direction.

What this incedent does, in my opinion, is highlight the need for tv replays to be used in decision making during matches. This will probably never happen though, at least while Sepp Blatter is in charge.

You only need to bring in replays for when the whistle has already been blown, and a penalty given. This is then reviewed, and would be a quick & simple way to test the basics of the technology, and not needed often.

You only need to bring in replays ....

No point in replays - even with the advance in technology, the only 'proof' that a certain ball crossed the goal line in 1966 is the word of one Russian and around 50 odd million Englishmen! :laugh

For long term howlers Reading's ghost goal could return to haunt Atwell and his "assisstant".
If Reading win their last game and Sheffield United don't win Reading go up on goal difference courtesy of the worst "assisstant's" decision of the season!
