When John set up the ill-fated forum poker game on Poker Stars I decided to join up. However, on that very day I got an email from Poker Stars addressed to me with a username. I had obviously joined at some previous stage of my life.
I logged in and got a shock to discover there was $45 sat there in my account just waiting to be spent.
I have decided to use the $45 to play the $1 double or nothing STTs. It's probably worth pointing out that NLHE is not my strongest suit but I will do my best.
To the uninitiated, that means the top 5 in a 10 seater table all win $2, an increase of 90c after deducting the house fee.
So today I had some spare time and decided to play. My laptop will allow four tables to display so I got into 4 turbo tourneys and off I went.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, I cashed in 3 of the 4 tourneys and they took about 30 mins to play. In the other I went out relatively early pushing all-in with AsAh on a board of
AcKc3d - I got called and my opponent who had 10 chips more than me turned over QcJc and the last two cards were 5c and 10d so my trips were smashed every which way. No complaints because it happens fairly regularly.
So, my bank increased by $1.60. That's a poor increase for a SR of 75% but at least I know how long it will take to get to my goal of $100 before I increase my playing level. Having said that it is an increase of 4% which I can only dream about from horse racing.
I should add that this will be very part time and occasional as I have other poker things I wish to do that are more profitable.
By my reckoning a SR of over 60% should keep me winning but I need over 80% to make the balance move quickly.
