re -installing vista

After lots of googling it seems that all vista discs are the same and that it is the serial number entered that determins whether it's the basic version or the premium version etc. Would anyone know if this is true or not as I need to do a clean re-installation of vista basic, I have the serial/code number but not a basic disc only a premium (I have that code as well).
If all else fails I could buy a cheapo xp disc with the code from fleebay.

It's the same software on the disk.

If you buy the upgrade via MS online, then they just give you another code and tell you to insert the DVD you already have. :)
