I have to admit that I had it on BFSP too as I had thought that it was a bit short earlier on too, I didn't see the race but I suspect that he must have looked tip top and well prepared just before the off.

You are having a pretty rough ride at the moment. Try and keep your chin up because this kind of strike rate cannot continue to be so low and some winners will have to come along soon. As always if you are feeling uncomfortable with losses it would be time to lower your stakes accordingly, but usually when such action is taken the winners start rolling in.
mick56
8th May 2010, 08:09
Hi BM,thanks for the thoughts,i am not feeling uncomfortable with the financial loss as even now it is only -5pts YTD, so 95% of my starting bank is still secure, but what is making me increasingly uncomfortable is the actual results.
When things go wrong in racing the first thing i always do is look to blame myself, what did i do wrong and how can i learn from it.The sodding thing with this protracted losing run,is that i cannot really find an answer to the above, being wise after the event there are a few minor things i might have changed but nothing significant. My feelings at present are to continue until the end of this month on the same stake,if this results in more loss then i may take a break and just paper proof until things change.
Excluding the above situation, you could say that one of the appealing aspects of horse racing is that you never no what is going to happen next, for myself this year to date has been one of untoward occurrences, and today another occurs, because i have made a good case for six horses,it is very tempting to try and whittle this down but i have decided to back them all you could call it a BM day.So here goes SOB.

Yes that's true in both cases. Most years i avg 300 bets but unfortunately they dont come evenly spaced sometimes there are several consecutive days when i can find nothing. So while i am not really comfortable with more than two on the same day i have come round to the way of thinking that the opportunities must be taken when found.
It just puts extra pressure on you but that's part of the bill.

Lets hope for a bit of luck, I might have time to do some method selections myself tomorrow, but I can safely say that my luck on my systems was equally as bad as your luck on your bets today, but that's racing. I never complain about any horse that wins, If it doesn't win a decent chunk of money its damage limitation at the very least.

The horses i put up in this challenge, are backed by myself i bet level stakes from a 100pts bank. When i started this challenge at the end of last NOV,i used a £50 stake giving myself 20 chances,i then encountered the worst results that i have had for years, the bank fell to below £500 and i bottled it and reduced stakes to £25 a slight recovery has been made and the bank now stands at £1209,and although pleased about this it now presents a problem. If i follow my own staking it will mean continuing to deploy small stakes here.
I have decided to try a few at £40 which currently gives me 30 chances, and see what occurs , but your thoughts on this are welcome.

Mick. My thoughts about your staking is to stick to your £25 which is about 2% of your bank. If your bank increase stake 2% but if you experience a loosing run do not reduce from your highest stake. This will give you 50 chances before you loose the bank. Hope this helps:thumbs

Profit is profit Mick, I had Mr Lu as well today so a nice little winner there for me too, I took bsp as I was working all day so I couldn't even consider going for an early price.
Any possible selections for tomorrow? I think it will be another relatively busy day for me.

Hi bm i got some of the 5/1 bog against the winner ,although there was a R4.But most of mine went on at the bfsp,i misread the market just did not envisage him starting 5/2 fav
I have the chance of three tomorrow but all will be shortish prices.

Hi bryn the 9/2 bog Tell Halaf was fair but in a 15rn hcap with no NR the 5/2 sp was ridiculous.
My staking ,i am following your suggestion of 2% never decreasing, but rather than fiddle about with stakes like £ 32 i am going to progress to the nearest £10 down so the next increase will be £2000 uses £40.
It will take much longer to reach the 5k (if atall) but i like this forum so guess i am in for the long haul.

HI BM yes it is but for myself may not end up so, the horses i put up here are the ones from which my own bets are placed, but owing to going changes or unrealistic prices i often swerve some of them its a swings and roundabouts thing but on balance increases my ROI.
Sometimes a descision is not made until close to the off,and i realise that these factors cannot be fairly included in this challenge.
To day is a good example with the strong poss of going changes at several courses.

personally I wouldn't have a problem if some of your selections are cancelled here prior to the off. you are right about the going today which is likely to be changable and possibly will shake things up a bit.
As for my results from the past month or so with the settled weather I'm starting to think that perhaps changeable conditions are better for my systems although it would take a massive amount of time to prove one way or another.
Also I think you probably have the right idea swerving the low odds, I don't do this in an attempt to keep the strike rate up, but I think most people on here would agree that its difficult to get a good roi with very short prices.
mick56

HI BM as with all things in racing it is difficult to achieve a balance,i dont tend to just swerve only those below 7/4 there is the odd occasion when even this price could be viewed as reasonable value, and conversely 4/1 may be below the exceptable price range for a selection, but trying to incorporate this and other factors into the challenge would i fear create unnecessary complications to what is viewed as a bit of fun.
As one example from today Ham 7.35 indian skipper i have formed the opinion that the FC G-F going is a necessity if i am to back him but with showers FC i will have to wait until 7.30pm before placing my bet, this type of decision i have to make on a frequent basis and is an important part of the whole.
In fact when referring to my own ROI on this forum i tend so as not to complicate matters quote the same figs as prouduced by the challenge horses but in real terms because of losers swerved and prices obtained they are much better than claimed as i would rather sell my self short than be thought of as a bragging after timer.

Its a system bet, I consider today a fairly risky day regarding my system bets as it seems to have thrown up quite a few relative outsiders, but if a system says so the bets go on. Mick well done, do you use other people tips if not how do you do selections ?
Hi relay, only my own and not an easy question to answer with a shortish reply.
I target chosen hcaps starting work at the four day stage, and looking for lossers.By the evening before the race i may have got one or more races down to just one horse, these then become the only races of interest ,and the one horse is promoted to what i term a possible bet.
These possibles then have the above process reversed IE i now look to see if IMO they can win the race.
If the answer is yes or may be then on the morning of race every thing is re checked NR and going changes considered and of course available prices.
I have achieved far better results during the period of posting my selections here but cannot build some of the above into the thread as sometimes my descision to back or not a selection is not made until very close to the off time.
Hope this gives you some idea of my MO i have made a lot of posts on different parts of this forum concerning some of the above. But if you have any more questions please ask and i will answer if able PS welcome to the forum.
