When i bought my computer coming up a year ago i was advised by pc world to all so buy norton security which i did not realising that this only lasts a year,i am now getting emails from Norton asking me to resubscribe. My question is with the BT HP and RAPOURT protection all installed do i need norton as well i dont begrudge the cost but rather paying for something i may not need.
Also do any members have a view on these maintenance cover that pc world are now advising me to purchase. cheers

You will have to check the maintenance contract - some only cover manufacturing faults after the first year, others reduce the payouts proportional to the age of the PC for wear and tear. Also, work out the cost - it might be worth paying for an extra 2 or 3 years providing that it is less than a third of the cost of the PC to do so. Otherwise, I would take my chances and save the money towards a new machine in 3 years time.
If you are getting rid of Norton, make sure you use the removal tools from the Norton website - simply uninstalling will leave legacy files that will cause problems in the future.
Any protection is better than none, but you could just run Superantispyware once a week to help keep the PC free of nasties - and it is free for personal use (with the option to purchase the 'automated' version).

mick there is no need to pay for anti vius software.
you can use download.com and get avg antivirus program for free it also uses less resources on your pc than of norton and mcafee etc

Ive used norton before and found that it does make computers run more slowly, and it didnt always find viruses etc, downloads.com is a good idea.
my favorite is malwarebytes for a free scanner, as for continuous protection as mentioned before theres some decent ones out there.
