my mate at work put this one to me the other day, got it in the end but took a while ?


My local golf club has put a door man on the entrance.
a group in front of me went up to him he told them 12 they replied 6 and he let them in.....
the next group went up to him, he told them 6 they replied 3 and he let them in...
my turn came he told me 4, i replied 2, he paused and replied sorry not the right answer you are not allowed in???
what was the answer ?

I'll 'hide' my answer......

It's the number of letters in the number that the doorman says to them.
ie....12...'TWELVE'.......answer 6....entry OK.
6....'SIX'.....answer 3......entry OK.
4.....'FOUR'.....answer 2....entry denied.....answer should be 4.
