http://www.freebetsfreemoney.co.uk/wp-content/plugins/wp-o-matic/cache/10137_joecole220710.jpgThere’s something rather odd about Joe Cole (http://football.fanhouse.co.uk/tag/Joe+Cole/)’s move to xxxxxxx.
Putting aside that the England reserve is snubbing the Champions League for the lure of the Europa, uprooting from his London home to move to Merseyside you start to wonder why the England fringe player is the only person Manchester City haven’t expressed an interest in buying. Perhaps it’s because he’s doesn’t come with a price tag. Well, not unless you take his wage demands into account.
There’s not many things in this world that billionaire Roman Abramovich (http://football.fanhouse.co.uk/tag/Roman+Abramovich/) baulks at when his hand heads for his pocket. This is the man who wasted fortunes on the likes of Andriy Shevchenko (http://football.fanhouse.co.uk/tag/Andriy+Shevchenko/), Juan Sebastian Veron (http://football.fanhouse.co.uk/tag/Juan+Sebastian+Veron/) and Adrian Mutu (http://football.fanhouse.co.uk/tag/Adrian+Mutu/). He is a man so rich he once reportedly bought a kid to play with his dog. Yet the rich entrepreneur drew the line at re-signing Joe Cole on a free. Something doesn’t add up here, much like Chelsea’s balance sheet over the last 10 years.
Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti (http://football.fanhouse.co.uk/tag/Carlo+Ancelotti/) claimed Cole’s release from the club was due to economic differences whereas Joe Cole claimed the real reasons were political. The real reason you suspect has yet to emerge. The player just wants to play football … for anyone willing to pay him £90k a week. Is that so unreasonable?
Abramovich has been planning to introduce a salary cap at Chelsea for a while. The reason for the delay is down to asking BP to fit it.

As a teenager, Joe Cole was billed as the next big thing. It was an almost impossible reputation to live up to and of course he hasn’t, despite being widely regarded as one of England’s most skilful players he can’t actually get in the England team. These days, with the team we’ve got, that’s quite an embarrassment.
A few weeks earlier, Yossi Benayoun (http://football.fanhouse.co.uk/tag/Yossi+Benayoun/) left Anfield for Stamford Bridge (http://football.fanhouse.co.uk/tag/Stamford+Bridge/) effectively to head in the other direction, which often happens to him whenever there’s a strong gust of wind. The £5 million fee xxxxxxx received will presumably pay for Cole’s wages, for one season at least.
Bet365 rate Cole 4-6 to score five or more goals for his new club, which just goes to show you don’t get much for £90k a week. Internet bookies Bodog make Frank Lampard (http://football.fanhouse.co.uk/tag/Frank+Lampard/) a 1-2 shot to score more goals than Cole. This is the same Lampard who has consistently outscored Cole over the last 10 seasons, the same Lampard who takes penalties and pops up with goals in all levels of football, except World Cups.
Paddy Power make the England midfielder 3-1 to score on his xxxxxxx debut, 4-5 to score seven or more league goals and 10-11 to outscore Rafa Benitez (http://football.fanhouse.co.uk/tag/Rafa+Benitez/)’s favourite son, the ever-enthusiastic Dirk Kuyt (http://football.fanhouse.co.uk/tag/Dirk+Kuyt/).
Money is not considered a dignified subject to talk about to those who have stacks of it. To the City owners it is no object either. Their list of targets is bigger than a crazed American schoolkid’s, with Fernando Torres (http://football.fanhouse.co.uk/tag/Fernando+Torres/), Mario Balotelli (http://football.fanhouse.co.uk/tag/Mario+Balotelli/) and Landon Donovan (http://football.fanhouse.co.uk/tag/Landon+Donovan/) all mentioned, the last one for comic purposes.
Only the planet’s wealthiest men can now afford to own a Premier League football club. First it was Abramovich and then the Abu Dhabi movers and sheikhers. Next it will be Sheikh Mohammed (http://football.fanhouse.co.uk/tag/Sheikh+Mohammed/), almost certainly followed by Jonathan Ross (http://football.fanhouse.co.uk/tag/Jonathan+Ross/).
Man City boss Roberto Mancini (http://football.fanhouse.co.uk/tag/Roberto+Mancini/) is the unsurprising 4-1 favourite to win the race nobody wants to win – the Sack Race. Newcastle manager Chris Hughton (http://football.fanhouse.co.uk/tag/Chris+Hughton/) is 5-1 and Ian Holloway is next at 6-1 after the Blackpool gaffer was forced to refute stories of walking out on the Tangerines this week.
Harry Redknapp (http://football.fanhouse.co.uk/tag/Harry+Redknapp/) reckons a title challenge is within reach for his Tottenham team but do the bookies? Paddy Power offer Spurs at 33-1 for a first Premier League title, some distance behind even the fifth-favourites xxxxxxx who are 12-1 and, in betting terms, a country mile behind pre-season favourites Chelsea at 13-8.
Sack Race betting: 4-1 Mancini, 9-2, 5-1 Hughton, 6-1 Holloway, 6-1 Di Matteo, 7-1 Martinez, 12-1 McCarthy, 14-1 Bruce, 14-1 Grant, 16-1 Coyle, 16-1 Allardyce, 20-1 McLeish, 20-1 O’Neill, 33-1 Pulis, 33-1 Hodgson, 33-1 Ancelotti, 33-1 Redknapp, 40-1 Moyes, 66-1, Wenger, 80-1 Ferguson.
