Annus Horribilis

I'm not a prolific blogger by any stretch of the imagination but sometimes it is just a cathartic exercise to do a bit of typing.
Anyway, I have not really been that active on this or any other forum for a while. It's fair to say that the past 4 months of my life have been pretty horrific.
It's probably too difficult to remember the chronological order of everything but the shitty lowlights have been
- My mum (57) got breast cancer
- My mum discovered her cancer had spread and has secondary spinal cancer and will never stop needing full time care
- I got arrested for fraud (charges subsequently dropped)
- Received a tax bill for £30k after brother in law denied we were in a partnership (my fault but what a git)
- Had to sell house to raise capital for tax bill and a carer for my mum (couldn't get a mortgage as my income is from gambling)
- Car got stolen when I was 240 miles away visiting mum
Oddly enough, my wife has stood by me through all of this and we are able to look forward now despite my mum being terminally ill and us living in a rented house.
Hopefully, these events have taught us not to be so frivolous with the money I earn and make sure a lot of it is saved.
