Thumbs up Film: Cidade de Deus (City Of God) 2002

"Fight and you'll never survive..... Run and you'll never escape"

Watched this last night, great film, keeps you interested for every minute. The acting is top notch by almost all! How accurate is it Merlin? :)

I was quite disappointed by this to be honest.

It was being billed as the Brazillian Goodfellas and supposed to be the most amazing film you'd ever seen. Don't get me wrong, it was good. But it wasn't that good.

Somewhere around the 7.5/8.0 out of 10 sort of mark but Goodfellas would be in the 9s

I knew it was supposed to be good but I hadnt had it billed to me like that, I guess that might be why I thought it was better, expectations werent so high. :)

Yep, I agree with you there. It was over-hyped before I saw it and hence my expectations were artificially high.

It was a good film, one I enjoyed and one I would watch again. I think your assessment of the film and the mark you gave it is fair. The comments and reviews I had read before I saw it basically put the film in the mid to high 9s.

Its certainly a truish reflection of Rio.....which is without doubt one of the most dangerous Cities anywhere.....

Current favourite is hi-jacking busloads of tourists....stripping them naked , nicking the bus and all possesions.....

The radical of one century is the conservative of the next. The radical invents the views. When he has worn them out the conservative adopts them.
