    Yerotsluap & Chancer,

No.10. The answer I have doesn't match either of yours..

That doesn't mean either of you are wrong...

Explain your reasoning & I'll quite happily admit that I have the wrong answer...

    Ada.

Sorry Ada should have said 80

when the cube is cut up it will be 5 layers of 5. only the perimeter squares will have 2 or more sides coloured. on the top layer there will be 16(counting corners only once), same on the bottom layer. On the side layers you don't count corners so there are 12. There are 4 sides

    12+12+12+12+16+16= 80

    I thought it was 44...

As Chancer said 16 on the top and bottom layer have 2 sides coloured.

That leaves us with 3 layers... but only the ones on the edges wil have 2 sides coloured... thus 4 on each of the 3 remaining layers have 2 sides coloured

    4+4+4+16+16 = 44

    Mega apologies to CHANCER........
I must have suffered a senior moment last night as I said your answer to No.10 (44) didn't agree with my answer. In fact it did, so apologies to you.
(Too much Stella lager, I suppose........that's my excuse, & I'm sticking to it!)
Please feel free to dispute No.10 if you think the answer is different from 44.

    Ada.
