Ross/ Brand / Sachs

It was the biggest news story at the time.
Brand and Ross made comments about Andrew Sachs grandaughter.

Poor Mr Sachs having to hear these things.

Finally this is what he has to say

the story had been widely misreported. He said he was not particularly close to his grand-daughter, nor entirely shocked, as suggested, by her career as a burlesque dancer. "I didn't say much. People interpreted that as he's so dignified. I'm not dignified, I just didn't know what to say. What was there to say?

He has also now reported that it has helped his career.

So all that controversy was for what exactly?
What they did was wrong but this is a classic case of everything getting blown out of proportion imo.

...and the UK media has little to do these days, going the same way as US news channels.....good job sky provide coverage from other countries so we get a complete picture of real news.

If the same phone call had been made to a 'Joe Public' and the instigators caught on camera making the call, said instigators would at the very least have been arrested and cautioned by police.

The Ross/Brand 'humour' (if it can be called that) is reflective of the same culture that believes it is somehow right to use the F word when sitting on a bus, using a mobile phone (quite often accompanied by a small child).

Yeah, the press made a bit of a meal of it - it sells newspapers! Personally, I think they should have been dealt with to the full extent of the law - now THAT would have been worth buying a newspaper for!

I think I said this at the time but the producer of the radio show is as much at fault as Brand or Ross as the call was pre-recorded and edited into the show for broadcast. That item was not live so could easily have been cut with no-one being any the wiser. The whole affair could then have been handled as a private matter between Sachs and Ross/Brand.

I never heard it or read exactly what had been said but I know it was obviously inappropriate.
I'm with Mat why did it ever go on air?
What I am most amazed by though is the reports at the time of how awful it was for Sachs etc etc yet now he says he wasn't shocked or worried about it so they made it all up then.
