2010 so far

Our newest member paul99 posed the question when introducing himself today
"how is everyone's 2010 going so far?".I took it to mean he was referring to the betting aspect,and even although we are only 12 days into the year its a fair question.

I have only been placing my wagers on bet fair for a couple of months,but one thing i have learnt already is to keep a close watch on the changing bookmakers emps and the bf odds,on Mon morning the bookmakers who where mostly going 11-10 against Diapason suddenly started showing ev and 10-11,at this point bf went 2.72 for a short while with fortunately enough liquidity to enable me to get the whole of my wager on.The horse which won started slight odds on and i would not have backed it at this price

So with the above and a couple of short priced winners from 7 bets i am showing a small profit YTD.

Would any other members care to comment on thier progress so far i think it would be interesting reading.

Been very quiet so far but a good start to the year. have placed 18 lays and 17 have lost. Showing a points profit of 11 points so happy so far.

well done Tops that's certainly a positive start,laying is not something i have tried yet,although because of other posts i have read on this forum i am starting to develop an interest,and am doing some paper proofing.

So far so good Mick. I have started going live with some systems I was testing at the back end of last year. The one I am really pleased with so far is an Ice Hockey one I have been testing for a while. Paper trading it was doing well and it gave me enough confidence to start it for real on the 6th January. To date it's had 17 wins from 23 bets at average odds of 1.84. I have 5 qualifying bets today so we'll see what effect that has on t he overall picture. Also from the data I have from testing I think I have identified a laying system to accompany it so I might start that soon as well.

I have started with a similar staking plan for it as I had seen Streetcry suggest in that staking thread that was started a couple of weeks back. The one where the bank is split into two with one on a more aggressive % and the rest at a steadier level. I did this and have 30% of the bank being staked at 7% and 70% of the bank being staked at 3%. I wouldn't normally like to do such a high % but due to the low odds and higher strike rate I think it will work well.

What I plan to do (assuming it continues to profit of course!) is that when the 7% staking bank goes above the 3% bank then I will add that bank to the 3% and stake 3% of the accumulated bank and then for the 7% staking I will start a fresh bank with 30% of the amount the 3% bank had reached prior to adding the 7% bank to it. That way I'm building security into the bank by betting 3% on the profits to date and only betting the 7% on 30% of the bank. Hope that makes sense

Other than that I have 4 new football systems up and running, two of which are in profit and the other two showing a small loss so far, but very early days. So yes, all in all, an encouraging start for me this year :)

Mattr i had to read it several times but yes it does make sense,makes me feel quite inadequate with my 1pt win level stakes.

Staking plans have never been a subject that i have had much time for but i am always ready to change my opinion and they are an area in which i intend to do some further investigation this year.Found your post an interesting read

I had originally intended it as a general "how has the year started", but thats also bets included. I know that 2009 was a pretty bad for alot of people...myself included...if it wasnt one thing, it was something else! :splapme

hi paul my fault i do get rather insular about betting! i agree with your comments ri 2009,i was amazed yesterday when placing a successful wager in a small race at ling to note that there was > 1.5 million liquidity on the race,and we are still in recession.

And you are right 2009 wasnt what I had expected- A very good December saw me scrape a profit otherwise i would have seen a loss

That's interesting BM my YTD now stands at bets 14 won 6 lsp 7.08pts
hardly spectacular but considering the weather i am not to despondent.

2009 my results where the opposite to yours in that i was having a decent year until DEC which was terrible,pity we did not no we could have swapped selections at the appropriate times.!
