    Best advice

I would like to read about the best piece of betting advice members have received, what it was and who from.

My own choice is very simple but has stood me in good stead, and came from an interview with the sporting life's handicapper dick whitford

His advice was specialise,if you can only spare two hours a day on form study better to spend an hour each on two races, than trying to go through every race that day.

i suspect that unfortunately there are many who wish with hindsight, that they had followed that one ,but do you no who the original saying is credited to[just before he jumped off the bridge].

    Dont make emotional decisions

It is not the cards you are dealt but what you do with them that counts

I certainly agree with this one, although its amazing how many still come out with "what you have spent all those hours studying form and you have not found something to back"

    Again, getting down to specialisation...

The bookmakers have to play in ever race - you don't. It the one rare advantage we have over them.

I'd also agree with not betting with drink - a recipe for disaster.

I must agree with specialising. If i went back to betting on horse racing i would specialise in AW handicaps over no further than 10 f

    Yes Mick.

If you allow your own opinion to influence a system selection, it is no longer a system but a method.

That's correct Micky, one should never deviate from the selections output from a unique set of rules for a system. No matter if it means backing a 200/1 shot with 3% of the bank or whatever! If it's a qualifier, it's treated the same as any other bet. One should never give less/more weighting to a system selection [unless the system is designed to incorporate such] based on their opinion of the horse [or giraffe, rhino... there are some odd races these days].

The way I look at a system is that it is a computer program that does exactly as it has been designed/instructed to do so. It contains no "emotive ideas" and does know how to deviate from the rules set for it.

By all means if one is superstitious about a particular horse or has some sort of attachment towards it, perhaps stick a few extra quid on but if that's the case then that few additional pounds added on, must be OUTSIDE of the system stake.
