Really looking forward to seeing if he can do a good job at Burnley after his, shall we say, 'lacklustre' performance as manager at Grimsby Town. I don't hold out much hope to be honest although Burnley aren't a bad side.

Although he did a great job at Scunthorpe, I have to say that he must consider himself to be the luckiest person involved in football today. To land a job in the Prem after being sacked by Wednesday!
What has happened to him doesn't happen very often.

It's certainly a rare one that's for sure. Wonder how long, realistically he'll last for? I reckon 2 seasons max.

I can't quite believe they have gone for Laws, wonder how the fans feel? Bet the Bolton fans are even happier now. :D Maybe he will prove us all wrong.
Laws started his career at Burnley and apparently the fans are delighted with the choice as he understands what the club means to the local area
I would lioke to know what Ivano Bonetti thinks of this appointment! :D

I was at that game when he threw the plagte of sandwiches in his face
It is not the cards you are dealt but what you do with them that counts
So that would have been Luton V Grimsby in what is now the Championship.
Seems like a world away doesn't it!

I didn't know that Mat, cheers. Still a strange choice for me though, it is a huge call by the Burnley board isn't it.
They're an unfashionable club who, if they stay up, can be expected to have to grind out results next season and are likely to finish lower mid-table at best in 2010/11 so they are going to struggle to appoint a real high calibre boss. They are a bit of a nobody on the foreign scene - who overseas has heard of Burnley? - so attracting a well-respected foreign boss is going to be a problem for them. Best stick with someone who knows the club. That said, it's a big call by the board, yes, as Laws is unproven at this level. But for all the reasons given above, who is there with any real top-flight experience that would consider the job? The other candidate was O'Driscoll, the Doncaster (and former Bournemouth?) manager and beyond that your looking at backroom staff from around the place or up and coming lower league managers.
