    Academics ... ?

I have attended a seminar and a taught session, as I have enrolled for an MBA. I did not have time to post selections from Thursday to Friday as I was constantly involved in discussions etc.

Was it a wake up call for me... I have not studied for 25 years and my boss said I have to do a masters, if I want to get a senior management job internationally ... so I decided on an MBA.

Is it just my imagination or do professors use words that nobody understands? I did not want to appear stupid and decided to write all the words down. Now I will look them up on a thesaurus. On a positive note: I will increase my vocab:D

The fact that you could spell them shows you will get your MBA

But a view from mathare on another thread about not making horse racing terminology more user friendly rings true, along the lines of any knowledge easily acquired is not worth having, maybe this is your professors tactics annoying as it may be there could be method in this madness.good luck with your studies

neither, its a language invented and used in this country.perhaps this will enable you a bit of payback to your professor's,ask them and when they are unable to say, i will give you the answer(although please don't then hold me responsible for your exam grades).

I'm slightly intrigued as to what 'on your blabber' is - I got the rest as:

The favourite is 11/8, it is 3/1 or more the rest, 7/s 'on your blabber' is 10/s with the bookies prepared to take only small bets.

& looking at it like that - it can only be 'the selection horse, the one that the person he is talking to 'wants to bet' on.

PS: if I don't win any rep, I'll just have to concentrate on the crate of beer - I think I've had one or two unplaced this month!:D

You are almost there so will award you the rep

The full translation is( the fav is 11/8 its 3/1 bar, number 7 on your card is 10/1 in the silver ring)this is the code language on course bookmakers used to communicate with each other.

blabber= blabber of lard = card ,which was a twist card which only bookmakers held so as an example in the 3pm race horse no11 on the official race card might be horse no 7 on the bookies twist card.

Cheers folks but the rep wasn't essential & I'm quite fond of red anyway (having said that local hero Mr Flynn has a bit of green going in the last at Punchestown tomz.)

I started off in a book as I had recalled something for another reply to one of Mick's threads - that I never got round to replying to but remembered seeing a Glossary of terms, got the numbers from there but the words I had to Google for but 'blabber', kept coming back to this thread! Maybe someone should add it to one of the on-line dictionaries, even the cockney or rhyming slang ones?

It's a shame really, looks like so-called technology is going to wipe tic-tac out. More tradition & culture down the pan.

But yeh, pretty much every subject has its own terminology.

blabber would make a good user name, may be it should be mine with all the posts i make.

And the lard ties in nicely with my rep comment of "is butter better than vaseline?"

I sure hope you are right but i suspect that was not the thinking "behind" the question which is why i felt unable to answer it.
