    International Women's Day

    Hey pps, it's International Women's Day -

Anyone got any favourite women of history?

    One of mine would be:

I think she coined the phrase, 'Socialism or Barbarism.' The world chose the latter & rifle-butted her to death.... which kind of reminds me of the introduction to the Hitch-hikers Guide To The Galaxy, 'some guy turns up suggesting they should all love each other, so they nailed him to a cross!'

There must be a friendlier planet, surely?

How does one do that? Double quotes - just write in between?

It wouldn't be the first time that I have been at odds with Wiki either but I would argue (well I would, wouldn't I?) that it's debatable - I think she was shot just to make sure. It says here:

Page 86 - The Lost Revolution (Germany 1918-23) - Chris Harman

"On 15th January they were arrested at their hiding place and dragged off separately to one of the Frei Korps HQ's, the Eden Hotel. Here a Captain Pabst had already made arrangements for their murder. After questioning, Liebknecht was taken from the building, knocked half conscious with a rifle butt and then driven to the Tiergarten where he was killed. Rosa was taken out shortly afterwards, her skull smashed in and she too was driven off, shot through the head and thrown into the canal."

Hell, she might have even drowned.

    international womens day

Hi GS this could proove an interesting thread.

My nomination from the past would be Boudicca,i suspect that if at the time we had not been so preoccupied with fighting each other that the Romans would not have succeed in thier invasion in the first place.

But Boudicca showed the ability to bring warring tribes together and then lead them to many victories her rebellion was eventually halted by the Romans but it was i think the begining of the end for thier occupation of this country.

I would also like to nominate a woman from the present and that would be Hayley Turner, i caught on to her talent as a jockey while she was still claiming.and with so many male jockeys seemingly disappearing from the sport once thier allowance is finished,Hayley did exceptionally well to make the grade. For me she often excelles on horses considered difficult and there must be good reasons for this. She came back from a terrible riding injury just as good if not better,i dont expect she will get the recognition she deserves but cannot think of a better role model for any young females considering a career in this sport.

Just a futher thought on this subject ,i would like to see us as men give even more encouragement to women to be proud of thier femininity and embrace it.

I am get piddled off by the rise in recent years of these so called he/shes, Women are equal to men and should be treated as such, but when ever you start messing around with the natural balance of things it always leads to grief.

Made me laugh when she beat Kieren Fallon on his comeback ride - he was so expecting a winner but had to settle for second.

    international women's day

Hi GS i remember that race,it amazes me that there still appears to be a reluctance amongst some of the betting public to back female jockeys, still value and price wise that's all to the good as far as i am concerned.

Do you remember years ago when the same prejudices existed concerning women trainers and look just how well they do now.
