    bar work

do you need any sort of hygiene certificate to work behind a bar serving?

I have an impressive bank of knowledge and experience. Unfortunately, I've lost the combination to this bank.

You can do it at night school when working if you wish.

As long as you follow the H&S rules they use in fast food restaurants: "Always wash your hands BEFORE using the toilet"

I think you need one if you are the manager, but not if your just general staff.

Don't know if it applies in England but here in Scotland anyone who serves behind a bar must be trained in all aspects of barwork and hold a certificate of competence. This applies to any establishment that holds a license to sell liquor including private clubs.

Without losing my licence - NO. Only problem for staff is if you have zealous Police the staff member who serves a minor or drunk is also liable to a fine, as well as the licensee.

i work in a pub piggy, and no certificate or anythng like that is needed.

training will be given - but it's more a case of how tills work, and closing down procedures etc....

different pubs have different rules but many pubs nowadays have a 'challange 21' - where you ID people if they look under 21 etc...

It looks like anybody can serve alcohol in England without a certificate from reading the previous posts. Have a look at this to see what is required in Scotland. Surely a much better way of reassuring the public that they can enjoy their pint without being at risk of the screaming abdabs.
