    US Racing Help Required

Going to try for the trifecta in this 7 horse affair. The problem is that if we box 4 horses the cost is 24 units so we will try a variation:

    Race 6 Calder:

    CC Seven - 1, 2, 3 - 3rd
    Delightful Change - 1, 3 - Won
    Monticello - 1, 2 - 2nd
    Way to go Liz - 2, 3

This will cover the four horses for 11 units.
Am enjoying following Oldhams exotics in the International Section (particularly as I can actually watch the races after work) but I don't understand the above bet.

I understand the boxed trifecta, but not this alternative.

    Help!

As the box costs us $48 (24 units), I like to reduce the risk whilst keeping a realistic chance of collecting.

The example above suggests that we put CC Seven in all three spots, Delightful Change in spots 1 and 3 (we lose if it finishes 2nd) etc.

This reduces the stakes to 11 units ($22) which is alot less to lose if everything goes wrong and of course can mean that we have 3 out of the 4 in the frame with no returns. The spots are not random, they are based on my own ratings of the race and I try to make sure that all spots are covered more or less equally.

Hope this explains it a bit better for you.

Thanks Oldham, makes sense (as does anything that minimises what I give to the bookies!).
