The original Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead are good if you like Zombie type films, for a bit of Italian gore, try Suspiria, or anything else from the 70's and 80's directed by Dario Argento - very stylish horror. For a bit of mindless fun, Demons and Demons 2 are worth a look - these are Italian as well. That should do for starters :D

Go on ebay and search theres thousands of films youve never heard of. The Italians are generally the goriest, i love em, theyre chessy as you like but the attention to detail is great! This site tells you about all the cuts in most films http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=2446 You have to buy the foreign or american versions, most english ones are cut to bugger. The House By The Cemetary is a cracker!!

Good taste Boi! I don't get the chance to watch as many horror films as I used to but always loved the Italian ones - House By The Cemetary is a good one, that was Lucio Fulci that directed that I think.. he made a lot of very gory ones.... yummy :D

Ye it was Fulci. I got Zombie 2 aswell, it really is terrible! :laugh But thats wot makes them great. The blood is a bit disappointing cos its like bright orange!! Tenebrae by Argento is quite good, i got the most uncut Dutch version, in fact Dutch are usually the best for uncut. Bloody hilarious when a chainsaw comes thru a window and saws a womens arm clean off!

For comedy gore you want to watch Peter "Lord of the Rings" Jackson's Bad Taste and Braindead films

I have a copy of Tenebrae - classic! Bad Taste and Braindead, very funny as well Mat, I bought them as soon as they came out on video.... wonder what your average LOTR fan would make of those if they didn't realise they were Peter Jackson films!

Now we're on the tacky stuff.... how about Motel Hell, very black comedy about a family that turn the Motel guests into sausages.... they plant them in the ground and force feed them.... then there's Basket Case.... :yikes:

An older classic from the Italians is Black Sabbath - 1960 with Boris Karloff, it's a compilation of short stories, really well done - directed by the master Mario Bava, and of course another of his, Black Sunday with Barbara Steele.

Looks like a useful site mate - thanks for that - it's bookmarked for later :)

I still have most of my old videos I bought in the early to mid 80's - got the original Evil Dead video shop copy, same for The Hills Have Eyes... must dig a few of then out again!

The trouble with the early video releases after a certain year, cant remember which one, they are all cut. Youd probably be surprised at the extra footage ul find in todays latest DVDs, mostly obtainable through the American amazon.com (not co.uk)
Just goto the letter E on the site i just posted and scroll down to evil dead and ul see how much was cut out. :)

I know 1984 was the year of the Video Nasties act in parliament - remember one asshole MP waving a copy of the Evil Dead in the Commons.... I'm fairly certain my copy is the Palace label one - 59 seconds cut as it's from before that law was passed. I'll have a look through my vids later to see what's what with the cuts - I used to get them second hand from a local VG corner shop for £2.99 a time when he needed to make more space for new stock.... at that point the Evil Dead one was selling through specialist dealers for £100 in good nick!

I may be wrong but I think it's a genuine scarefect you want rather than a b-movie type horror that at best will only make you laugh. Check out some original japanese films such as The Eye, of the original The Grudge. I'm always on the look out for a good scary picture and as yet the closest any film has got to scaring me was..well i liked the end of the ring....but in truth i don't think ive ever been scared by a film. However, check out The Eye and The Grudge in a dark room on your own. (And if you have a sister with long black hair and brown eyes...get her the ****** outta the house)

If youve never been scared by a film, then you should have been watching 18s from the age of 4! Does the trick at that age. Halloween is one of my fondest memories, it instilled a feeling that may never be found again. Course nowadays its just naff :D

Er, why ?

Japan seem to use black haired young girls in their scary movies...ref: the grudge and the ring.

Watched "phone" on argento extreme last night, didnt really scare me much though, renting "grudge" out later in the week and got myself "house of a thousand corpses" for tonight along with Resi evil 2, thought the Jap version of the "ring" was better than the yank remake. Also spotted a Jap Anime CGI that looks quite gruesome so thats on the list as well.

Its just the label, bit of an aquired taste, not as full on as usual horror films but do have there genuinely shock moments, just needs to be a few more of them imo and then they would be up there with the best.
