Yep its off the telly and once again I have no idea how they got their answer so I need help.
I have the answer .
Your first answer is too low, your second answer too high

Are we allowed to see the answer to make it easier to work out how they reached it?

Ok - the number game I put up yesterday I have revealed the answer to as well, but I'm needing someone to work that one out.

The answer to this puzzle is 3254

1+2+3+4+5+4? Numbers down the side of the list + the one number in the list!

Years in 4 centuries 200*401=80,200 = 1+2+3+4+.....400!!!!

Obvious anser
1. Hour hands on a clock=1
2. Years in 4 centuries=400
3. Points on a triangle=3
4. Members in a quartet=4
5. Corks in a wine bottle=1
409+1+2+3+4+5=424!!

Years in 4 centuries 200*401=80,200 = 1+2+3+4+.....400!!!!

How you got to 400 after your first bit, I'll never know.

200 multiplied by 401 = 80,200? Sure thing, but where did you get the 200 from?

N*(N+1)/2 =Sum of 1 to N

or the area of a triangle

Can anyone make it add up to 3254?
This is the official answer

Make no sense to me Sam - Could be one for Glos!! :D

John

I'm still confused! (as always)

Points on the triangle is part 3.....

You started with 200 for 'years in 4 centuries' :doh

MarcusMel

I started with 400 divided by 2 = 200

N=1:1= 1*2/2 =1 = 1
N=2:1+2 = 2*3/2 = 3
N=3:1+2+3 = 3*4/2=6
N=4:1+2+3+4 = 4*5/2 =10
and so on

It is similar to the formula for finding the area of a triangle

Half the base times the Height where N+1 is the height of the triangle :D

Cheers Marcus, kinda makes sense... might have to read it properly again when my mind is more mathematically engaged!

1. Hour hands on a clock=100 C in Clock is 100 roman or CL =150
D is roman numeral 500 but do you include it?
2. Years in 4 centuries=400 but cent could be another 10
3. Points on a triangle=3
4. Members in a quartet=1000 from Roman M
5. Corks in a wine bottle= C 100 roman

But still no closer to making it add up to the answer
